    umpire taunts

At a game this week, a runner (who happens to be the team catcher) slid into home and was there before the ball hit the catchers glove. Everyone was cheering and the umpire called the girl out. Then he leaned over the girl who slid and said " I guess you don't like me anymore, hehehe." Several people at the backstop heard it.

    Oops

So in the next inning, did the catcher call for a rise ball and forget to lift her glove up to catch it??? Oops, missed that one, sorry blue... :)

By the way, had an ump last week that was talking junk to our 7th grade catcher while she was catching. Our catcher was so upset she couldn't even tell us what he was saying.

At my game Friday, visiting team was a coupla minutes late for the JV game. After everyone warmed up, Visitors took Infield first( like they always do). When the Home JVs tried to take Infield (which lasts about 5 minutes), the Home Plate Ump said ' It's 4:30, gametime, you can't take infield.' When my JV Coaches questioned it, base ump stated ' It's a Rule in North Carolina High School Athletic Association that Home team must take Infield first'. Again, I don't claim to be very smart but, I'm pretty sure I've been from one side of the rulebook to the other and I don't remember ANYTHING about who has to take Infield first. Unfortunately I wasn't at the field during this period. I would've told my Coaches to go ahead and do Infield while the visitors were getting loose but, to try and blow smoke (I think) by stating that it is a rule??!! Anyway, it didn't matter. Has anyone else heard that the Home team 'must' take Infield first?

    STARTING TIME:
A time no earlier than 5:00 pm is recommended, unless facilities

    dictate otherwise.

thats the only thing i could find about a time.

while it is traditional for home team to take infield first i have never seen a rule about it.

the main reason for home to do infield first is so the home coaches can get the stuff ready for final prep after infield. (remark lines and such)

I guess I didn't realize it was traditional for the Home team to take infield first. For the last 7 years the visiting team has done it first. The JV game WAS scheduled for 4:30. I just thought it was funny that he would tell my Coaches that it was a RULE that Home team take it first. I have had several instances where the visiting team was a little late and the umps would ask both teams to take a 'quick' infield.

....as I remember, there is no tradition in place when I was around that dictated either team go first on infield practice. Makes sense to me that Home could go first and let the coaches get the field ready soon after the visitors finish their pregame gig.
Back to the thread........Ump tells our HS coach that my DDs brand new helmet is illegal because he didn't know where the "stamp" was.

I mean brand spanking Mizuno new.

I had an ump checking bats before game. Rules state that a bat has to be -10 or less. One girls bat (a 31-21) did not have -10 written on the bat. 31-21 was written on the bat and the end of the bat. He said that he did not do math and the bat was illegal.
