    Corey Bolam

Thanks for the mention Stretchy. Corey gets a lot of different pronunciations and spellings for his name. Corey Bolam - 2011 Catcher for South Central. I got there just in time to hear the ball off the bat but did not see the HR. Oh well......

    Charlotte Country Day...9 Charlotte Latin...8

    Latin...010 430 0...8..14..0
    CCDS..003 105 x...9...9...1

    Winning Pitcher: Jim Mitchell (1.2IP, 0R, 3H, 3K, 0BB, 0ER)
    Save: William Frazier
    Losing Pitcher: Nolan O'Mery (4.1 IP, 6R, 4H, 1K, 4BB, 6ER)

The second round of the NCISAA State playoffs saw Latin and Country Day tangle for the 4th time this year and Country Day emerged victorious for the 4th time, again in coming from behind to pull out a one-run win in dramatic fashion. The Latin bats were hot early as they built an 8-4 lead, powered by Michael Massardo's 3-3 effort with a towering HR to straight-away center and Xander Mattox, who also was 3-3 with an RBI double. Country Day scored early as Alex Perullo continued his hot hitting with a solo HR and Chris Onorato knocked in two runs with a shot of the pitcher's hip, who had to retire. Things were beginning to look somewhat grim for the homestanding Bucs as they batted in the bottom of the sixth, but they mounted a stirring rally as the crowd support picked up and the first two batters reached on free passes. A single loaded the bases and after a fielder's choice retired a runner at the plate, Chad Walton worked his fourth walk of the game to force in a run and Onorato hit a sac fly to make it 8-6. William Frazier then stroked a two-out, two RBI double to the deepest part of the ballpark to tie the game as the Country Day faithful were cheering a solid team effort to claw back to a tie. Justin Ide followed up with a sharp drive into the left field corner to plate Frazier with the winning run...Ide's second game-winning RBI against Latin this year.

Needing three outs to advance to the State semi-finals, the Bucs started the inning nicely with a great snag in left field by Tate Bloomer, but two bloop singles made things very tight at Ed Walton Field, as the hard-hitting Latin team was bringing the top of the order to the plate. William Frazier was called upon to end the rally and struck out the hot-hitting Massardo...then with Latin down to their last out, the Latin runner broke from second on a fastball and Ide threw him out at third to end the game (Ide's second assist at third in the game). Bloomer continued his outstanding play in the field and also drove a laser over the LF wall in the 4th inning. Jim Mitchell pitched very well in relief, holding Latin scoreless and striking out three of the first five batters faced.

    Leading hitters:

    CCDS: Tate Bloomer 2-3, HR
    CCDS: William Frazier 1-3, 2B, 2RBI
    CCDS: Alex Perullo 1-3, HR
    CCDS: Chris Onorato 1-3, 3RBI
CCDS: Justin Ide 1-4, GW RBI
Latin: Xander Mattox, 4-4, 2B, RBI
Latin: Michael Massardo 3-4, HR, 2RBI
