Check out region 8. Only 12 girls on the team when the others have 15. Seven of the 12 are from the coach's schools. I know I'll get ripped for saying it but I'm just stating the facts. They don't want you to make comments unless you are praising the powers that be. They don't want to know what the problems are. Sorry but it is the truth.

I'd be willing to bet that if they only have 12 players that only 12 tried out. Remember, playing in the State Games is NOT mandatory! What did the other schools' coaches do to encourage their players to try out?

Congratulations to the coaches who volunteer so these kids can play!

I don't think knowing "what the problems are" is the issue. Someone always points out that there are problems. What needs to be known are the solutions!

Remember the old saying: if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!!

    Region 8

It is sad to say that Region 8 only had 12 young ladies sign up for tryouts. Something definitely needs to be done to spark more interest in that area. You would think with the caliber of High School teams in that Region that more young ladies would be interested in playing. As a comparison:

    Region 5: 37
    Region 6: 46
    Region 7: 42

These are the numbers who signed up for tryouts in the other three Western Regions. Sure sounds like we need to work as an Association and also as people who say they are interested in softball in this State to pull together to help as opposed to what is usually said about the State Games and any other thing in the world that deals with the NCSCA. " Powers that be" comment does not take long for people in the know to realize who you are talking about. Lately every thread is the same old gripe. All-District and All-State will be coming out soon and I know that some will be there to rip away. You know, go ahead and do what you must do and say what you feel you must say. My question, "Are you personally doing anything in Region 8 to help or is it all negative toward the high school game". It just gets old!

From what I have heard is that there are a good number of talented girls who did not attend the tryouts becuase of the Dynamite Classic in Columbia, SC on the 16th - 20th. My DD is one that is attending the Dynamite Classic and also made one of the teams for the All-Star game. Its back to back, but we are willing to do both tournaments.

    I tried

I tried to talk about the problems with Region 8 but nobody wanted to listen. It is a shame that only 12 girls tried out but I tried to tell everyone that was what was going to happen. Instead of addressing my concerns I was ripped to shreds for even suggesting that there were problems with the state games. All you men wanted to label me a troublemaker. So I know where you are coming from as it also got old with me. I'm sure you won't listen but I'll tell you again, if you do not address people's concerns you will run a good concept right in the ground. Good Luck!

I don't understand how you can come up with solutions if no one will admit there are problems. Nobody from Swain ranked #2; Nobody from Murphy ranked number 5 even tried out? Admitting there is a problem is your first step to fixing it. Putting down people that are trying to tell you there are problems won't help you fix it. It just frustrates people who finally throw their hands in the air and say, "fine, I'm done let them find out for themselves after it is too late". Fact is Region 8 has some good ballplayers and they are being cast to the side and falling through the cracks by those who don't care. Just close your eyes to the problems and don't get hurt patting yourselves on the back for a job well done. I feel sure that the girls that are meant to make it will work harder and make it on their own with or without the state games. Now feel free to rip me to shreds for telling the truth. In my business I ask people what they don't like so I can fix it because I'm not perfect but I would rather someone tell me why they are unhappy and give me an opportunity to fix it before they take their business elsewhere. A very simple solution but one must admit they are not perfect and I'm not sure that is going to happen.

    Suggestion!

You seem to be very interested in everything that goes on. May I make a suggestion? You join the NCSCA as an Associate member and I will appoint you as a member to look into the situation, and come up wth suggestions to work out these problems in Region 8. I will take time out of my busy back patting schedule to do that. Part of the solution or............
