this one I've always scratched my head on....

Last year in a summer collegiate game...runner on 1B, 2 outs, 3 - 2 count. The umpire in the field (at 2B) overruled the ball 4 call and called the pitch a strike. Batter was called out and needless to say pandemonium broke out!!

I have NEVER seen a field umpire reverse the pitch call of the guy behind the plate!!

What's the rule on this?

 

This one is about hairnets, bobbypins and jewelry..never paid attention to it

Can only be done in an appeal---if no appeal he was probably upset at his partner about the night before

The plate umpire is in charge of the field - the field umpire essentially works for him. Unless the homeplate umpire pointed and asked for help from the field umpire, the home plate umpire should have overruled him and ball 4 should have been the call.

This is exactly why the home plate umpire is in charge.
- a man with two watches never knows what time it is....
- a field with two umpires in charge is never in control...

I agree and have no problem with that. But lets start enforcing the rule in game one, then by game 3 maybe 4-everybody knows about it. Dont start in game 23. If I get a speeding ticket in maneto or murphy- I know the process. It shouldnt be that hard for the different crews in different regions to enforce the rules the same way if chapel hill is the lawmakers. Just my opinion.
