Doesn't surprise me that Maples pitched so well. He's the best pitcher in the state. But Rose is like a snake...ya gotta kill it.

    Roanoke Rapids 6
    Providence Grove 1 (9 innings)

    WP: Manning
    LP: J. Smith

PG scored 1 run in the bottom of the 1st inning. RR scored 1 run in the top of the 4th inning. That was all the scoring until the top of the 9th inning. RR scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th for the final score. It was a great game played by two evenly matched teams. Both pitchers threw amazing and both teams had strong defensive efforts behind them. This would have been one heckuva game to watch... too bad I had to coach in it.

West Brunswick 3 Rocky Mount 2

Wow is about all I can say after last night's game. The game lived up to its hype. Top of the first Jay Gause walked the #2 hitter and Collins Cuthrell blasted and I mean blasted a 2-0 pitch onto highway 130 to give Rocky Mount a 2-0 lead. West Brunswick came in and with 2 outs, Jay Gause walked and was replaced by pinch runner Cole Josselyn. Nick Napolitano got a base hit and Jesse Simmons followed with an RBI single to make it 2-1. Zeros went up and Benton Moss and Jay Gause went pitch for pitch against each other. West left many base runners on base and blew a couple of opportunities with 1st and 2nd and no outs and failed to score, one of those being Rocky Mount's centerfield gunning Hunter Allen at the plate. In the bottom of the 6th, Ryan Sykes got a 1 out single. Cole Josselyn pinch ran for him and Justin Cook grounded out to 2nd moving Josselyn to 2nd. Tim Powell hit a high chopper up the middle and the 2nd baseman made a great play, but Powell was safe at first and Josselyn came all the way around from 2nd to tie the game at 2. Hobbs Johnson entered the game in the bottom of the 7th and walked Markel Jones. Jay Gause got a hit and Gause and Jones were moved to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. Nick Napolitano was intentionally walked and brought up a lefty-lefty match up in Johnson and Jesse Simmons. Simmons got down 0-2 and battled Johnson. With a 1-2 count, Simmons hit a chopper to first and the ball seemed to get stuck in the first baseman's glove and Markel Jones scampered home with the game winning run. If this game wasn't big enough, Coach Mike Alderson picked up coaching win #300 as well...Congrats Coach A!!

    Rocky Mount 2 1 0
    West Brunswick 3 10 0

    WP: Jay Gause 7IP 1H 2ER 2BB 9K
    LP: Hobbs Johnson 1H 1BB 1ER
    Benton Moss 6IP 9H 2ER 2BB 8K

West Brunswick will be at home Friday night!

Wow... Lee County and Broughton both advancing.

Lee finished 5th in the Tri-9 regular season this spring and had to win their last few plus get some help from others just to make it in. They sure haven't let anyone down. Awesome job by Dillon Frye (two complete game wins) and Coach Spivey.

Apex/Athens is today (maybe). Holly Springs/Wakefield is today as well (maybe).

Got a lot more rain overnight in Raleigh area.

You don't give yourself much of a chance with only one hit. Credit Gause for a well thrown game. Another example of the one-and-done situation. I'd still take my chances with this RM team in a series vs. anyone.

AYCOCK AND ROCKY MOOUNT WOULD OF BEEN A GREAT 3 GAME SERIES. nOT ALWAYS THE BEST TEAMS GO IN BASEBALL. UPSETS ARE EASIER IN BASEBALL THAN ANY OTHER SPORT. YOU NEED ONE GOOD PITCHER AND KEEP IT CLOSE AND A LUCKY HIT TO WIN THE GAME. AYCOCK WA UNFORTUNATE TO GET HUNT FIRST ROUND. IF THAT WAS A 3 GAME SERIES I WOULD TAKE AYCOCK BECAUSE DEEPER IN PITCHING. ONLY THING I DON'T UNDERSTAND IN THE HUNT AYCOCK GAME IS WHY THEIR COACH KEPT THE PICHER IN THE 6INNING. THE KID HAD TROUBLE IN THE 5TH AND PITCH COUNT WAS 96. HE HAD ONE OF THE BEST PITCHERS AVAILABLE. HE PUT THE OTHER KID IN AFTER A DOUBLE SCORED A RUN. THE NEW PITCHER STRUCK OUT HOUCHINS AND PITMAN. JUST A THOUGHT IF YOU PUT HOLLOWELL IN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE INNING THEY DON'T SCORE.
