Like I said, you don't want to have to go to Porter Ridge for a playoff game.

It seems like a lot of these schools are in "The High End" area of town and lights at a baseball game may disturb "evening tea time". Well then you shouldn't be hosting a playoff game..."Buffy"!!!

Reynolds coach could have and should have demanded a change of venue. Bet he never makes that mistake again in the future.

Then it seems like he's the bad guy, every HS baseball field should have lights. I remember last year driving to Marvin Ridge fighting rush hour traffic and upon arriving to the entrance to the school, thinking why doesn't this school have lights! After talking to a "Booster" he stated "We like it quite after dark", don't get me wrong they have one of the best manicured fields around. But when "darkness" effects the outcome of a 1-0 playoff game, then the NCHSAA should adopt rules to require lights. If the locals don't want to be bothered, then build your schools outside of your "kingdoms".

The Reynolds coach did demand to play at 7:00 and the NCHSAA made them play at 5:00!

    Porter Ridge-AC Reynolds Game

Whoa now folks. When the rain came and the ump called the delay the PR players pulled the tarp out, covered the field. got wet to the bone while the other team stayed dry in the dugout. When it stopped raining the PR players, PR former players, PR coaches, and PR fans removed the tarp and got to work on the field to try to get it playable to finish the game while the ACR team stood watching along the first base line. There was no incentive for the PR group to work as hard as they did but they did to try to get the game finished. ACR had batted 1 complete time more and it was the bottom of the 6th inning.

As for lights....PR would love to have lights. The reason they do not is not because of bothering the neighbors or they think they are too good. The reason is because the $150K price tag for the baseball field and the $100K price tag for the softball field.

I am a dad of a holly springs baseball player and would like to share with all some observations. Apex won the game and before anyone says it I not upset about the loss but about what the apex coaches allow their players to do and their students to do at apex home games. When we played apex at apex earlier this year coach valder allowed his players to address the oposing pitcher carlos rodon in what all hs parents considered demeaning language. From the dugout his players were calling carlos, sen~ior (as in Spanish) rodon, saying that now that was a real mexican jumping bean when he threw a curve, and boy did that have some hot sauce on it at the fastballs. Several students in the stands were openly hollering "carlos you suck" during his wind up and delivery. I could not believe the AD and head coach would allow such.Tonight when the game was 1-1 with bases loaded the runner at 1st started running and the apex team started rattling the dugout fence, a couple came out of the dugout with all hollering step off, step off. carlos steped off in what I thought was a legal move and a balk was called. run scores and then carlos gives up a bloop base hit. Score was 4-1 then and changed the whole complexion of the game. apex scored a bunch after that but without such a bush league move I don't think the later would have happened. Just my opinion. I spoke with an apex parent we know after the game and he said he knows it is embarassing but his son (apex player) told him that there are players who never step on the field that coach valder has specifically told that their job is to get under the opponents skin. I spoke to 2 other tri 9 coaches during and after tonights game and thay said the exact same thing. I am sending a detailed letter to the NCHSAA with the endorsement of the apex players parents. Might sound like i need a little cheese w/ this whine but every one good deed deserves another. Congratulations coach valder on your win but I hope you consider what you are teaching young men about the wrong value of sport.

Thats fine in a regular season game, call it after 6. This was a playoff game that was called for darkness, with the home team up 1-0. Now imagine if you guys were behind and they called it? Don't get me wrong, I know kids on the PR team and it's a great story. However, ALL games should start at the same time in the playoffs and 7:00 is ideal, allowing travel time for the visiting team. Why should traveling teams sacrifice leaving 2 hrs. early, because of the inability of the host school to provide lights? Heck our Dixie Youth field has lights, if your school board wishes not to have them, then they shouldn't be hosting a playoff game.
