What is the best model for travel ball coaching staff, or in other words, which coaching staff would get the most out of the girls (assume 16-18 yrs old with serious players looking to the next level):

    1. Recent college graduates that played all four years
    2. Not so recent graduates that may have assistant coaching experience or lesson experience
    3. Male adults with no playing experience but know how to train and understand the larger coaching experience
    4. Female adults with no playing experience, limited softball knowledge, but can relate to teen age girls

    Thoughts appreciated...

JMO, experienced coaches with longtime quality programs have connections with college coaches and tournament directors that place them at the top of any list. Hands down.

you left one out in my opinion.....male coaches who have fastpitch experience (i know three in this area who grew up playing fastpitch in the northern or western states)

to me, it doesnt matter male or female.

    know the game.
know how to train your players.
    know how to win.
know how to get your players recruited.
know how to keep your players happy.
know how to keep costs down.

    good luck ........j/k

I would have to go with a male who knows the game. Could have baseball or fastpitch experience don't think one has much of an advantage over the other. Just because someone played the game doesn't mean they can coach it especially if they are young females. They not only have to know the game but be able to handle young girls who are sometimes only a couple years younger then they themselves are. No matter how good they are that can be really hard, females criticizing other female usually not a good thing. works better if the female coach is an older woman but I still would rather have a man

#3 Male head coach that has been around a while
#2 Female asst coach been around the game, played in College/HS

This just seems to work out the best for the girls. Head coach is like the dad and asst coach like the big sis. Then it becomes more of a family type setup. May have some disagreements. But the girls will work together better.
