St. Stephens played us tough both times. There were several other close games. In those games, we made the plays. Our defense had been solid all year, not just because Chelsea struck out everybody. I will agree with you on one thing. We did get rattled. After LN scored 2 runs, we kind of acted like we thought it was over. We threw the ball around like it was a hot potato. I gave Lake Norman credit. Last year we made mistakes too, but we overcame them. Last night we dug too big of a hole to do that. I was not taking anything away from Lake Norman. They're a very good ballteam, the best we played all year, and will win state if they play like they did last night. I wish them the best of luck.

You said you gave them credit however you also said sometimes its better to be lucky than to be good???? not really my definition of giving credit, LN is a very good ball team and they did NOT win this game off of luck.

I'm affilated with neither I was at the game and give LN credit. They forced some of those "mental mistakes" by putting the ball in play. Sometimes simply putting the bat on the ball and not striking out can reap some benefits. There may have been a reason for some of those mistakes..... It was called THE OTHER TEAM. AND you say "AC hit some hard balls but they were right at people"... yeah and what did those "people " they were hit at do with them??? They picked it up and threw them out..... Also a difference between winning in the playoffs and losing. I just saw 2 evenly matched teams out there last night (and i thought that before I went to the game having seen both a couple times) one made the plays when the pressure was applied, one that made a couple of mistakes BECAUSE pressure was applied. Give credit to LN for forcing your hand instead of letting the pitcher ring up bout 17 ks . Congrats again to 2 great teams on great seasons and thanks for giving me my moneys worth. Congrats to you, Kailey and Codie as well. You can be sure I checked out the paper this morning and loved seeing them in there for all their hard work. Go get 'em in the sectionals!

Seeing-eye singles and infield hits, yes I consider that somewhat lucky. But I'm tired of arguing. So I'll drop it.

As a side note, the game between Purnell Swett and Holly Springs was one of the best pitched that I have seen in many years. Hats off to both teams - excellent contest.

That why its a great game....line drives get caught, and seeing eye singles, and dying quails get find a way.....luck has nothing to do with it....

These games are the one's everyone lives to play in, the memories will stay with these kids forever.......Obviously, the winning team has more to celebrate... but never forget, you got to play in the game...

Coach S summoned it up perfectly.... AC didn't handle the pressure, and he took responsibility..... I'm sure he will have them ready next year....

I saw a great game tonight, where both teams left it all on the field...

Cape Fear 2
Ashley 1

11 innings..... walk off HR in bottom of 11 for Cape Fear...

There was a winner and a loser.....but both teams walked away with heads high...

Well said Coach Sherrill, I just wish some other coaches would take a little more responsibility instead of blaming everything on someone else all the time + tearing players down so bad like some do. I was at the AC vs LN game and it was a great ball game to watch, alot of great softball people were there and having Ally Blake throw out the first pitch was great.
