Way to go Boxman! I usually hit my thumb on my predictions. Has State made any improvements to its complex, like putting a little bit of a cover over the stands like their "friends" at Chapel Hill? With the sun and metal seats, felt like I was sitting on my Weber grill last time I was there. I could hear the sizzling. The meat was well-done.

    Five County Stadium

The 1A & 3A teams are in for a treat. This stadium is one of the best minor league parks in the country. Sit in the shade, in the sun, wherever you feel like. Not a bad seat in the house & plenty of them. Lots of good eats also. East Rowan was here two years ago, so they know all about it.

Boxman, Hunt High is only 19 miles from Five County Stadium. A straight shot down 264 highway. You can make it in about 12 minutes if you travel a little bit over the 70 MPH speed limit. ( I confess, I used to speed alot on this stretch of road, but I've since mended my ways.):auto: (Highway Patrol sorta likes this road for some reason.)

I agree, 5 County may be the best park in the state. From a fan's perspective the seating is too big....it's hard for the place to look full, but the stadium and field maintenance is the best around. In this day and age when HS ballplayers have an opportunity to play on some of the best fields in the south though showcase baseball, there is nothing better than to play at 5 County---well, unless they could move it out west.

You're right. Five County has more of a major league feel to it. It's huge. The Greensboro Grasshopper Stadium is nice, but can't hold a candle to Five County. When Lake Norman was playing Eastern Wayne last season, the stadium looked empty overall. The 4A title series should probadly be there instead of 1A. More fans.

    It is BIG!

    Tale of the tape

    Five County Stadium
    Seating: 6,500
Dimensions: 330 LF; 400 CF; 309 RF (shorter than any high school field, even less than TC's 325)
Interesting feature: It's so big they offer tours.

    The Doak
    Seating: 2,200
    Dimensions: 330 LF; 400 CF; 340 RF
    Top feature: AIR-CONDITIONED BATHROOMS!

I've covered a few NCHSAA baseball Championships at Five County Stadium and enjoyed it. I'm glad I'm going back again this year.

I don't think so Boxman. I have the Statesville Owls team getting ready to crank up their season, so any free time I have will be with them. Hey, you need to come and check us out this summer. A lot of players from your way on the team.
