I was not at the game but have had several people I trust verify this happeded. Girl hits a home run, as she rounds second base she takes her helmet off to "celebrate" and continues to round the bases. This was not a walk off so the game continues. I have seen girls "chewed" out by umpires for taking a helmet off on base or in the on deck cirlce to fix hair. Again I was not their but seems a little odd that she was allowed to run bases with helmet in hand.

Deliberately wearing the helmet improperly or intentionally removing the helmet while the ball is live shall result in the player being declared out but
shall not remove a force play.

.......Is a homerun ball rolling down to the parking lot considered a live ball?

I saw NCSU and Miami baseball players come trotting home after clearing the scoreboard and a couple of steps before they tagged homeplate, they took their helmet off. I thought it was very classy and intended to be saying thanks to his teammates for their support, ie he was indicating in a humble way that he was not above the team.

The rule regarding taking the helmet off while running the bases becomes a moot point after an over the fence home run since there is no longer a ball available to cause injury. Yes, its a violation of the rule, but any umpire with a brain should do nothing more than tell her to leave her helmet on next time.

When their team is on offense, players are supposed to have helmets on when out of the dugout. What would be the call when the entire team leaves the dugout without their helmets to celebrate the home run as the hitter touches home? None of these players ever put on their helmets when they come out of the dugout to do this.

I dont disagree with you... Just citing the rule. Just like having no help from team mates after hitting one over the fence to complete the bases.

This past year in tournament ball, we had 2 of our girls hit one out in the same game, the umpire would not let them come out of the dugout, without a helmet on. No LIE!!

    Helmet Rule for HS

FED or HS rule 1 section 6
Art.1...A batting helmet...is mandatory for each batter, players/students in the coaches boxes, runners and retired runners...
Art.2...The batting helmet is required to be worn while the ball is live and in live ball territory until the ball enters dead ball territory...
Art.3...Non-adult bat shaggers shall wear batting helmets while in live-ball area, even if the ball is dead

Of course if a batter wants to take her helmet off to run the bases after a yard tater, then it would be up to the pitcher wether or not she is punished for her unsportsmanlike display.
