....Hey Blue, i nderstand that the pitching distance has changed to 43' in HS. My point was to use the example that "if" in HS a pitcher threw from 40' like they used to, then how is it helping them prepare for college and 43'.
As for facemasks, if they are mandatory in HS or TB, which I'm 100% down with, then why does the "next level" not have this rule?

To summarize, I've seen bookoos of players in college not wearing a facemask. Why?
I should of stayed in school and been an orthodontist.

    Thanks again!

I'm learning all over the place!!! Since there is no rule, that explains why a rule wasn't enforced in this incident. So that I can have my DD wear her new chin strap properly, how did your DD wear her chin strap? Is the position as described above correct? Also, can I get a LOCK to go on that chin strap for when my DD wears this on dates? Thanks for the suggestion, BRAVES!!!

I am not a rule maker, but I would say it is the same as NCAA not having a jewelry rule. The players are in most if not all cases 18 or older and as adults they are somewhat reaponsible for themselves and if they want to put themselves at risk in such a manner then so be it.

As I said I am not a rule maker so this is JMO.

    Watch this...

Rule or no rule, after listening to and talking with Sarah Fekete, former Tennessee standout and Team USA player, about her story and then watching the video below... there really should not be a question about the need for a face mask. My daughter now wears an emask. It completely takes away the "bar" issue and gives her a lot more protection as a lefty slapper. Thankfully, it hasn't been put to the test yet, and I'm praying it never is!!!

I agree 100% with the facemask rule in HS and would not be against a facemask rule in all softball orginazations. There are numerous times I have seen balls go off the bat and hit the batter's facemask.

I don't know for certain what is to blame for this, but I can only assume it is the plane that the pitch is on and the angle of the bat when swung by softball players.

I have never seen a baseball do this, but I have seen a baseball hit onto home plate and ricochet back onto the batter's face, and a bunted ball hit into the batter's face.

My main points for my posts to this thread are if there is no rule, then the umpires have no grounds to require players to use safety equipment that is not mandated by the powers that be, and as an umpire it's funny sometimes to hear the spectators going on about the rules when they don't have a clue if it is true or false.

Granted some umpires don't know the rules like they should and enforce NCAA, TB and LL rules in HS which perpetuate the myths as well.

BTW anyone can purchase a FED rulebook at their local sporting goods store usually, they do not keep them secret like other orginazations.
