Due to Title (9)? The federal government came in and did an investigation. The girls facility has to be comparable to the boys and for those who have been to RSHS know this was not even remotely close to being the case. The football and baseball teams have excellent fields and locker rooms. The girls softball field was partially on the football practice field. The upgrade will take place over the next two years with the initial 100 grand being spent this year and hopefully another 75,000 for lights the next year......Great news for the girls of Richmond County. The school board did take ownership and approve the money to be spent out of capital outlay.

I'm happy for the upgrades to the RCCHS girls facilities. My question is who's actually paying for them. No slander, Just asking. In a time when the NC public school system is floundering, and many counties are considering having to lay off teachers, and many times now we are seeing where very valuable longtime coaches who have retired and have continued to coach, get the pink slip saying their duties are no longer needed, or we see where coaches pay has been reduced. We see the possibility of reducing teachers, then having those left to teach have much larger class sizes.

I'm all for equality of the sexes, and title 9, but sounds to me like somethings wrotten in Denmark!

So, if a school doesn't even have a softball field (uses the local parks and wreck who sometimes drag the field, don't line the fields, and don't have the restrooms open) but that same school has very nice baseball and football fields, can they be forced via Title 9 to build a softball field for the girls even if they may not have the physical space on the campus (would have to purchase more land)?

I'll politely leave this thread alone in the best interest of the atom bomb theory........some have the bomb (common sense) and theres the others who don't, but think they do.:dots:

Fishman, I see where you're going...

I don't know about in NC, but in SC the school districts have to have to independant budgets: One operating, one capital. Taxes are set differently for the two funds. Bonds can be issued to pay for capital, but not for operations, etc., etc.

These improvements would come out of the capital fund, money which can't be transferred to operations to pay for teachers, coaches, books, or anything of the sort.
