Over the weekend, while watching the College World Series, I heard the announcers made the comment that Mike Candrea stated he would like to see composite bats banned (and replaced with aluminum, circa 2002).

What are the thoughts of "the board" on composite bats and their use/elimination as it pertains to HS and/or travel ball in the future?

    nope

Don't see it happing..... unless EVERY association (ASA,NSA, ISF.... ect) and HS and College divisions and all the money making bat makers agree. Just because one college coach makes a statement like that....... I'm not going to say "never" but don't see it happing...
    JMO.... just like the coach.

It's just a matter of time before they're banned.

Most of the teams I noticed were using the older composites; Synergy, Stealth, from 07-08 years. And the newer purple and white Stealth.

I saw one HR on a low-pitch, almost check swing that won a game. Definitely wasn't any follow through.

HRs definitely make the game more exciting but with the bats being what they are a whole lot of games might be won by chance rather than skill.

That being said, if the umps are going to give pitchers a strike zone that is anywhere between the batters boxes maybe we need the composite bats to help equalize the runs.

There's no doubt the danger is higher with composites also. Higher skilled defensive players are at lesser risk but not every defensive player has higher skills.

    2008 standard

Move fences to 220 left and right, 240 center, college bases to 65'. Min standard for college bats will be 2008 standard that tighten up a lot of this. Likely about 50% of the HR's that have been hit were likely close to these marks and some others have really been BIG HR's.

Maybe Candrea wants the rule changed for tonight and tomorrow to slow down UCLA's HR production and he can stay in the game.

When golfers started hitting drives 300+ and balls and clubs improved so much. The PGA and USGA did not ban those. The courses just moved the tee's back and made the course harder. AKA...The Masters was 6900 yards and is now 7400 yds and #15 is still reachable in 2.

It would be cheaper if they just made softer balls that wouldn't come off the bats as hard or fly as far.I see this happening before fields get bigger or bats get banned.

    Candrea

Use SOFTEE softballs and move the fence to 175' or tie a rag around a sponge in a knot. Candrea thoughts were about HR production. Did he mention safety. My Golf comment was about tech stuff. People go to golf outings and get hit a lot from 300+ with a rock hard round white thing traveling about 50-75 MPH and most never see it coming...... FORE!!!!! OK..lets just give the pitcher a suit of armor or dress them in catching gear and let them stand at 25' and throw 80mph. See if the batter can hit it. ....... Ya'll may laugh. But thats the chance you take when you play a sport. Even in a safe sport like curling, the brusher slips on the ice and breaks his arm holding a broom. JMO
