That would be good except they break too easily hitting a softball.

....why not teach the pitcher to adjust to the fact that momma and daddy can't sit behind the fence forever, calling pitches.
Whats wrong is that parents, me included, have a hard time letting folks who "KNOW" take over coaching their kids.

Funny thing to me, I know of kids who go to pitching lessons to prominent folks who, as good as they are, teach a different approach.

Why would you put a kid through that?

Theres one positive about learning from lots of folks, but when you're honing your skills, its time to go micro approach.
Ya'll can chap back and forth all you want on this one but I'll leave you with the truth....fact is, the batters have developed to a higher degree than the pitchers, and ya'll can blame it on the bats or the distance of the mound but in the end, you look yourself in the mirror and will say, "well, for once that fishidiot has a point" and quit blaming the umps, regs, fields, when for years the pitchers have reaped havoc in whats been called a pitchers game and now the tide has turned.

Dale Jr. hasn't won a race in 2 1/2 years, do you hear him slinging snot about how the other drivers/teams have an advantage?

Sh*t or get off the pot!

I don't want to see the demensions of the field changes. This is softball. shortgame, slapping and then homeruns make it a better game to watch. Much of the question is about illegal bats as well as the bats are to hot. There is alot of cheating in slowpitch and some in fatpitch of shaving bats etc. Have the bat companies make the bats with whatever and make it harder to cheat. Don't change the game.

A 6' tall 210' fence is just right for HS. Less than 200' and home runs become excessive. More than 220' and they drop off dramatically. College is totally different. A 200' fence in D1 college is silly. There they should start at 230' or more.

Fish Buddy, you nailed it. We had this discussion a while back that a large number of hitters were now working on their game as hard as pitchers do in the off season. Sure the bats are better but you still have to hit it square. You see a lot of girls going opposite field yard this year why ? Plate discipline allow the ball to get deep and drive it. Its called hard work and its paying off for the hitters.

we moved the the pitching rubber back to 43 and did it make a difference. game became much more exciting. but i only saw 7 hr's all season. so i didn't see where this is such a big issue. pitchers 1st and 3rd, the ball still comes in a hurry. i think the ball will change 1st, then the bat. someone said in a earlier post the hitter have been working harder and it is paying off. the game is great now. tinker a little but don't throw a bunch of changes into it. hs fields with a 200' fence are perfect. what is needed is to get away from walnut creek and play at ncstate or unc. if we were still playing slowpitch, walnut creek would be perfect.

    small changes

If some one made major changes. It would be like the fed making changes on something. But the pitching rubber was moved to 43 as was stated, did not do a "whole lot". College ball, drop the ball from 47 core to 44 core .... I bet this would be a small step. Do test in non-conference games or in those invitational tourneys. Make OF fence 8' standard in all college softball. One school has a 4' and another has 6' and another has 8'.

    Far too expensive

Have you been to many college stadiums? Many are 'shoe horned' into spaces that are not expandable. At the nicer ones (think UT) this would also mean moving the scoreboard (there, onto the railroad tracks). At App State you would need to move Jerry Moore's indoor football facility . . . ain't happening! I honestly think an 8' fence that is 200' down the lines in 210' in center is about right in college.

My DD played with 240-250 foot fences in Europe last summer. It definitely changed the game but in some weird ways. Be careful what you wish for.
