When you understand the purpose of showcase baseball you wouldn't think it was so dumb. Yes teams like to win but the purpose is not to see how many arms you can blow out (like in legion) so you can win. Time limits are important because if a coach/scout is coming to watch a certain player at a certain time they don't want to be waiting because two teams decided there was trophy they were playing for that no one knew about. Drop dead time limit is great or if it gets close to two hours and the home team is batting just bang it and be done.

First, I don't think it is fair to slight the whole of Legion Baseball for blowing out arms. That can be done in LL and HS, as well as with a weekend team. Not throwing and maintaining between starts can adversly affect an arm. Anyway, there are plenty of Legion guys that do not deserve that comment. ("I am not Legion" by the way - hey new movie title!)

Second, as far as showcase is concerned, I have talked to several college coaches who see some bad fruit from the tree. A guy has a weekend, or several weekends of 3 innings, and he is a hot name, gets recruited, gets signed - bam! Two years later he has never contributed to that college program. I will say the ones who recognize this "bathwater with the baby" realize it is necessary to be a part of. It is the new baseball culture. Call it frugal, smart, or lazy, how can any college coach not go where "everybody is". Oh, maybe "everybody" isn't there... enough of that. I don't want to start throwing mud - and I don't think I have.
