12 year old getting recruited by Washington, UCLA, FLA?? Wow, this post keeps getting better and better!! Move over Jennie Finch with your 71mph and your olympic gold, move over Lisa Fernandez. We might see 4 H.S. state championships, multiple ASA gold National championships and 4 time WCWS winner. I hope this 12 year old is for real. Someone is really putting their neck out there and putting this kid up so high that she better reach the highest peak. For her sake and whoever is posting this I pray she does. We need to watch putting kids this high up for a GAME that's right a GAME of softball. She is 12 years old. Let her be a kid!!!!

I think he was talking about Hoover being recruited heavily. To correct someone's earlier post: In 2007, She was twelve years old, 6 feet tall, and her team won the little league world series. (Simpsonville, SC I think) She was hitting 62 or 63 with their guns on tv. We watched the whole weekend, because she played for the Crush and all our girls knew her. Back then she was a little wild.

A 12 yr. old zinging it at 70+ MPH? Sounds eerily familiar to the old legend of Syd Finch from back in the day. Anyone over the age of 45 out there remember that one? The Syd Finch story actually made it to an issue of Sports Illustrated (George Plimpton), and everyone was falling for it, until it was later discovered that Syd Finch was a figment of the imagination.

I'm certainly not saying the girl can't bring the heat, but 71MPH????? Lets just say that I am somewhat skeptical. If she does throw that hard, she would certainly be throwing a no-hitter and striking out 18+ every single game. She may walk a bunch as well, but I don't see anyone touching that kind of velocity at that age level. The hardest thrower I ever saw at that age was Constance Orr. When she was pitching to 11-12 yr. olds, she pretty much blew everybody away. As hitters got older, that chaned a little bit. Constance was still an awesome pitcher, but the bats began to catch up a little, as we saw this year at the college world series. More balls being put in play (and over the fence), and more runs being scored.

    Have a good one!

    Hoover

There are 2 pitchers being discussed here. Hoover is not the 12 year old. She is still 14U eligible now. At the time she was 13 at ASA Nationals last year she was being looked at by the top teams in the country. Not unusual for the big programs. There was a 2013 3B that Washington/Oklahoma and other were watching as well. The recruiting clock has been sped up more than most realize. Those were head coaches of the premier teams in the country out watching 14U ASA Nationals and were there most of the week. A year before at 14U Nationals there may have been a couple of coaches so things changed pretty quick.
