The 2010 NCSCA All-State team is now listed on the Coaches Association website at www.ncfastpitch.org. You will also be able to see the selections for State Pitchers and Players of the year for all 4 classifications from the East and West. The NCSCA would like to congratulate all of these young ladies for their selection to the 2010 team.

    Congrats to everyone!!! Great job!

    side note:
I think its a shame there were alot of great players (some on state championship teams) that would probably have made it, however their coach did not take the time to go thru the process. Those of you probably know who you are, so please bring it to your athletic directors attention.

.....look taterhead, I'm not trying to stir the pot on this subject because Lord knows it does not take but a swipe here or a swirl there to get off on the wrong track.....but hear the 'ol fishman out on this one.....

.....Getting props in the press in a small town newspaper is cool, getting props in a big city is cool, getting props in Sports Illustrated is really cool, but for every one of those periodicals, (newspapers, magazines) they rely on the sources that provide info that they combine to SELL their product. Not a day goes by that Kobe or LeBron or Jeter or Tiger, probably thinks that they did not get their props in the news.
Sorry to be harsh but the truth is the truth..
When you see a kid boy or girl on TV, 9 times out of 10 he or she is a nice looking kid.
Jennie Finch could pitch and she was not hard on the eyes so she got creds, but what about Bustos or Osterman, hey how 'bout all the other players on the Olympic team? Can you name them? I can't. But I know that even though their not in the publics eye, they can play bigtime. I wonder what they think about attention going elsewhere.

So 5 or 10 kids who can play very well did not make the All State team will chap alot of folks butts.

    So what!?

A couple of years from now it won't mean a thing to you or anybody else.

Just remember that when you look in the mirror, and you like what you see, knowing that you've done your best at anything, .....then thats props enough.

Yes it sucks that life isn't fair, but sh!t happens, so what doesn't kill you will make you better.

    You are right on, Fish!

I tell players to try to be better than you are, not better than they are.

It's also good to recognize a kid at the time they do something worthy of extra praise; not wait until end-of-year awards.

These don't have to be your own players. I mentioned the Region 4 3rd baseman earlier; Jessica Crist, Jack Britt. Number 4 for Region 7, Taylor Rosenbalm, North Iredell, is an awesome player also.

Sometimes they need to know so they'll realize their hard work is making them better.

But don't blow smoke; if it's not true, don't say it!

I completely agree that the local newspapers have nothing to do with who is All State and who is not. We have two local newspapers that had two completely different opinions on who were the most deserving players in the area, and it was obvious that it was about who they covered the most during the year. You take it for what it is worth, because everyone of the kids that the two recognized are deserving of that recognition.

My concern is when the coaches vote one way today and another group of coaches vote another way and they may not even know they kid. There are many kids left off the All District and All State list because coaches did not even put them up. But explain how a kid can be voted Conference Player of the Year by the coaches in the conference, play on a team that made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs, make the All District Team, play on the State Games team for the second consecutive year, and then not get the vote of the coaches for All State. While at the same time, kids that did not even make all conference in the same conference are All State. Maybe I just don't understand the requirements for All State, but needless to say, many people are shocked.

Unfortunately the system can never be fair when you have coaches voting for players they haven't seen play, but I don't know of another way to do it. People just have to take it for what it is, it is really no different than a local newspapers OPINION of who should be on the team except of course the newspaper probably knows more about the kids they are choosing.
