    C'ville at H'ville

Thanks for the Hickory @ Charlotte final. This morning on the WLON-am1050 sports show, (which usually includes lots of Legion and local High School sports, Saturday mornings 8-10 am) they were talking about how Charlotte came back from 6-1 down to win and move on. Also, there was talk about how disappointed Post 48 fans must be because the of how good the Hickory pitching staff is.

Okay, game 3 of the C'ville vs. H'ville series. Last night I wasn't exactly sure how the rain out would work. This morning they said again that the everything that happened before the rain last night is completly erased. When the game starts on Saturday night, it will be a brand new game 3 at N. Meck HS. They will not finish the Friday game, they will start over. EXCEPT ONE THING!!! The pitching will count! So, if this is true, does that mean that Cory Parks for C'ville will be charged with 2 innings, and Hunter Connelly of H'ville will be charged with 2 and 2/3 innings. Or, will they both be charged with 2 innings since Connelly had not "completed" the 3rd? I would hope that Parks wouldn't be charged with 3 since he had only pitched in the 1st & 2nd. Guess we will find out tonight unless one of you guys that actually knows this stuff will type in a thought.

Am I correct in remembering that once a pitcher throws in 12 innings, he can't pitch again for 72 hours?

    Cherryville - Drew Reynolds

I just heard that Drew Reynolds was taken to the Emergency Room today. They said he took a couple hard slides last night and were hoping it was just a deep bruise, but other speculation was that it could have been kidney stones or his appendix. Again, that is all just speculation. I'm not sure what his status for tonight's game is at this point. The radio guys will probably have a report when they go on the air. Nugget if you hear anything, let us know.

*UPDATE* Drew is not in the lineup tonight. The radio guys only said he was home resting with an illness.

Cherryville vs Huntersville - Game 3

    Cherryville - 6
    Huntersville - 2

Adam Benfield pitched a complete game for C'ville striking out 15 Huntersville batters.

    Cherryville wins series 3-0

As predicted, Charlotte won its series and has to be favored over Rutherford. Too much depth. And take Cherryville against the survivor of the other series as long as they're 100 percent healthy. That remains to be seen. Will be great matchups regardless.

    Cherryville @ Huntersville game 3

In addition to luigiboy's notes, here are a couple more.

    Homeruns
H'ville - Diego Perez, solo, to leadoff the bottom of the 1st
C'ville - Bryan DaCanal, solo, with 2 outs in the top of the 6th

Pitching - As already typed above, Benfield had the 15 k's, and only 1BB that I counted, or maybe it was a Hit By Pitch?
For Huntersville, Jip Richards started, went 5 & 2/3. Hunter Conley 2 & 1/3, and Chris Brunner pitched the 9th.

    Linescore:
    C'ville Post 100----100 001 130 = 6
    H'ville Post 321----200 000 000 = 2

So, I guess Cherryville will play the winner of Shelby vs. Caldwell Co. I heard that Caldwell Co. won tonight in extra innings and now leads the series 2-1 with game 4 being in Shelby on Sunday night.

No disrespect to Shelby, but it doesn't seem normal without a Cherryville vs Caldwell series. It's because of this series is the reason this forum was created.

Thanks for that tidbit. Being halfway new here, I did not know that. If Caldwell wins, they have the home field, and if Shelby wins, Cherryville would have the home field.
I guess I am a "homer" for hoping that Post 82 can win tonight and force the game 5 @ Caldwell. If for no other reason than to eat up more innings on both pitching staffs, then having to go right into the semi-finals w/o much off time to put toward the 72 hours rule.

    Braves,
Charlotte hopes to see you at a game in their next series that starts Tuesday at Myers Park. The team is so excited to finally make it this far! Coach Clewis and his staff have done an outstanding job with this group of fine, talented young men.

Will be a great series regardless of who wins the Caldwell/Shelby series, but there is nothing like Cherryville/Caldwell County in July when it really counts.

Nugget, if Caldwell gets past Shelby, do yourself a favor and make the trip up to Granite Falls. Playoff baseball at Cherryville, Shelby, and Caldwell gives you 3 of the best baseball experiences American Legion has to offer in North Carolina. I can't believe I'm pulling for Post 29 in anything, but I'm hoping for the C'ville/Caldwell series.

Maybe that matchup will even provoke an appearance on TBR by CarolinaMan. I haven't seen him around here this year.
