Shelby Star does a super job covering local sports.

But to be clear, these stats are just about Area IV players only.

Does anyone keep stats for the other Areas? It would be great to read about those players, too. I think Area IV is the largest, covering Charlotte and about 250 miles west of it and about 100 miles north of Charlotte.

I don't know his stats (I will have them later), but if there is one person right now I would not pitch to if I were the opposing coach, it would be Zach Smith from Rowan County. I don't know how many game winning, game tying hits he has to get before folks start avoiding him.

I have shared with you guys before that Richard Walker, of the Gaston Gazette, is very much on the side of reporting Legion Ball in the paper. The Shelby Star, I believe, is now owned by the same company as the Gazette, and uses their articles sometimes.

He is often at games taking his own notes. He was @ N. Meck on saturday night to cover Cherryville. A couple of years ago when the state championship was held in Gastonia, he was the catalyst behind alot of the info and history of legion ball in Gastonia and in this area that was printed in the game program. We are luckey to have a reporter that wants to cover legion ball and can get the stories in the paper.

Thank you Lord for getting me out of Mecklenburg County!

Not in the Observer. Isn't that right Charlotte, Pineville, Mint Hill, Huntersville? Oh yea, Huntersville and that very wealthy area up at Lake Norman have there own paper, but I would bet they don't cover much of anything.

The weekly Huntersville and Lake Norman papers do cover HS and Legion ball.

Thee Mooresville Tribune / Statesville Record and Landmark both do a pretty good job with legion and HS baseball. They usually have stories, game summaries, and pics.

Cary Post 67 has some very good talent.

    Joe Pistacchio - App State
    Blair Betts - Indiana
    David Hamm - UNCOMMITTED!?
    Dillon Rudio - UNCOMMITTED!?
    Gerrit Van Genderen - UNCOMMITTED!?
James Todd - Rising SO at Rhodes College on baseball team
Drew Woodall - Rising SO at Charleston Southern on baseball team
    Stephen McKinney - UNC-Pembroke
    Grant Shambley - Wake Forest
Eric Brady (currently injured) - Duke
    A.C. Colantino - Rising SR
    Daniel Sondag - Rising SR

And I'm sure I left some off. This team is very, very good. The bulk of this team made up the 2008 JR Legion State Champion Cary JR Legion Bulls.

Area IV (and all the areas!) is filled with talented players. This thread is not about who and who is not reporting on that. It's about celebrating the talents of these young men. I personally would like to thank the reporters that give American Legion baseball the props that it deserves!

Looking thru the list, I noticed some players with some very impressive stats whose name appears in all the categories (work on pitching later). Here's the list: (batting avg, rbi, hr)

    Ryan Glass, Mint Hill (47-123) .382, 34, 5
    Jon Gray, Caldwell (31-72) .431, 26, 6
    Kyle Himler, Huntersville (20-54) .370, 21, 4
    Jacob Hoyle, Hickory (31-73) .425, 22 5
    Dale Innes, Asheville (24-51) .471, 21, 5
    Brent Rowe, Burke (25-69) .362, 32, 6
    Dakota Speiss, Burke (25-60) .417, 20, 6
    Daniel Whitecavage, Huntersville (29-62) .468, 23, 4

Congrats to these guys (and everyone) on a successful season!! :cheers2:
