If using PITT is not a requirement and there is no penalty, then why does it say is is required (in bold print) under the "Tourney Housing" tab on the website? BTW, another TB org clearly stated that the penalty was $500 on their website. Hopefully, they have reconsidered after reading TBR. Maybe we are making a difference for the good of EVERYONE!

It is required for my EC Fireworks

It was not for the ASA State. I had the tournament entry form made and posted before being told that I could not require it according to the ASA Code.
As I explained earlier, two different situations. The ASA State was mentioned. I signed a binding contract for the EC Fireworks for exclusivity.
I'll be more than glad to dicuss with anyone, anything regarding my torunaments and PITT. I got absolutely nothing to hide.
My phone rings off the hook for every other thing regarding softball. Why not this too.

When it is required to book housing through PITT how is it enforced? Does someone actually check where teams are staying? What area does it affect as far as distance from the fields?

Locals are not subject to those requirements, right?

Do the rooms actually cost more (as mentioned in another post) than they normally would if not associated with a team?

    All teams are asked

If a team needs housing they are asked to book through PITT for my tournaments in Raleigh.
In the case of the EC Fireworks, they are asked by PITT. I get a phone call from PITT if they didn't book through them. I then have to make a call to the team expaining that I signed a contract.
In the case of the ASA State, most of the teams were within driving distance so it didn't matter. There was only one team that booked thorugh them, that I'm aware of, and it was a Cardinal team.
I have email after email from all the major tournaments we play in across the country, requiring the use of housing agents. I have no problem with it. If we do not use them and they find out, we are removed from the tournament.
Do I like it, not really. But if it's required, and I want to play, I will follow the rule. Simple. I don't like the insurance plan presented by Obama, but...Do I pay the penalty for not buying into it??? What happens if I don't???
Everything has a cost. Everything has a positive and a negative. Everything has a reward or a penalty.

If questions are answered her for everyone it should save alot of phone calls. I know having to talk to everyone individually takes alot of time. Thanks. So if a team already has a place to stay and does not need housing there is no need to call PITT? No offense but just because every major tournament across the country uses PITT shouldn't mean that we should have to use them here in NC. Just choose not to use them and let people decide their own housing.

    MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND

I am refering to my tournaments only.
I don't have anything to do with any tournament other than The EC Fireworks, The Late Summer, and this year's ASA State.
If you have questions regarding other tournaments you should ask the directors of those.
I control only what I do. Nothing else. Your statement implies you are talking about this weekend. It is Ray's showcase tournament, not mine. I would advise to follow the rules provided, if that's what you are talking about.

I commend ASA for not requiring this. They obviously feel as the majority of us do that this practice is just wrong and I will not be supporting it.

So, do I understand you correctly in your posts that the policy is if you don't use PITT the penalty is you don't play (like other TDs policies you referred to above)?

I'm sitting here trying to convince myself that this can't be all that bad but I can't do it.

If the posts I've read are accurate a team would be paying someone around $500 per tournament for each tournament that requires this.

Now that is something that a good team mom used to do and was given an Outback gift card and thank you note at the end of the season.

This is just wrong; there is no nicer way to say it!

I would suggest that instead of taking it all out on the coach or the head of the organization or the TD that everyone call the local hotel manager, the district hotel manager and the national hotel management.

Maybe if these booking agents had more reasonable rates it would be worth it. But it's going to be hard to beat the price of the proud team mom and her Outback meal.
