Wow!! Beverly Smith is awesome!! I'm happy for her and not so happy that she's leaving the area.

I believe you will see a big difference at USC!

I hate it for Donna, though; I can't think of one without thinking about the other. Donna's great, also; goes without saying, really.

This is a great hire for USC

Ironically, USC was one the first SEC schools to have softball and the former coach, Joyce Compton, is a legend. As often happens though, USC stood still while the almost all the other SEC schools moved aggressively in terms of budgets and facilities leaving the Gamecocks at the bottom of the league. Bev will have a big job turning it around but I can't think of anyone better to do it. The university also appears poised to upgrade the facility, a necessary step if they want to compete in the second best softball conference in America:

    Who will it be

Now, Bev can recruit the way she wants. She is going to attract a lot of talent away from UNC, if Donna doesn't pick a good replacement. The SEC is strong in softball. She will be wearing her Gamecock colors this weekend in Raleigh.

Coach Gelin, Greensboro College, would be an excellent replacement for Bev at UNC and help Donna compete with USC. Coach Gelin is an excellent coach and excellent judge of talent. Stay tuned!!!
