I think Beverly did a great job of recruiting the way she wanted at UNC. She will not be very easy to replace for sure.

Donna Papa ranks high on the list of successful coaches. Her successes will continue. The great news for USC is that their team will realize an immediate improvement.

For those thinking about playing at UNC, read Donna's bio! Beverly is one of Donna's greatest standouts.

My favorite paragraphs from that bio:

    Emphasis mine.

Congratulations to Beverly! Good luck to both Donna and Beverly!

Bev will not be in Raleigh recruiting for USC-she is in Chicago. And she recruited the way she wanted at UNC-she had full freedom. Coach Papa totally trusted her and pretty much raised her up in that system. UNC needs a great replacement that is true-but with more experience than Gelin (who is a good young coach-but not ready for D1 yet) to keep this program headed in right direction. She will have no problem with her reputation and program. Bev will be hard to replace but change is always a part of any program. Coaches come and go but UNC softball will always be first class.

.....well now that you've opened up the discussion of possible candidates for the job, Danniel Spaulding, Crystal Cox are two recent players who rocked in the circle at UNC. How about Charlie Dobbins, the Head Coach at Peace? He doggone sure knows how to pitch and teach it. Ironic to be sure but check this out, CD had the UNC recruit Lauren Walker call him for a few pitching lessons in Raleigh. Walker is from Penn. Long way to Grand Slam but it must have worked out. Also Constance Orr, UNC pitcher/1B plays for Grandslam 23U Red, and Ashely Bone, UNC recruit has been taught by CD for her entire career.

I guess will see soon enough.

.....and I agree with you BButt, UNC softball players/coaches/program has been first class in my eyes and I'm sure that will continue.

i did at that Braves, this young lady was and is awesome. We played travel ball against her team, and she pitched against us. my daughter was 5 years younger and playing 18u ball at that time and they had a conversation between them that stayed with my dd for the rest of her career and lit that fire. great kid, and great young lady.

    Congrats Bev Smith

USC got a good one for sure. My guess is replacement will be either an alumni or high profile "go getter". One thing is for sure, she/he will have to have the strong character and ethics that Donna Papa has built her program on. She will not allow her program to settle for less. I think Texas A&M's Scarboro would be a diamond in the rough. But look at us trying to give tips :) to the professionals out there. I am sure the short list has been made and phone calls too. After all those freshmen will be on campus before you know it.

Norris will not go to USC-she is playing pro-ball and already has a job at Texas A&M Corpus C. I say bring Meagan Smith back where she belongs.
