Best Show Case Team

....The "average" teams are not a problem at all.........without them, BTW, these tournaments wouldn't make! These kids work hard, and their money spends dollar for dollar with all of the "best" teams. I have no problem with placing the "A" teams on one field and the "B" on field 6ish and the so called average teams against eachother so that the college coaches can weigh one versus another.

I'm wrong alot but not this time!

ChiliDawg, Can you list the players and where they are going. I am happy to hear this and curious to see final stops for these girls.

Instead of parents complaining about which organization is better or team is better, maybe we should get back to the players. Each organization list your commits to date and celebrate this accomplishment.

To each his own... my proof is on the "big diamond"... where it is a fact that it works. I'm only talking about showcase teams whose purpose is to help kids get to the next level, not the teams that are playing just for the fun of playing. These two types of teams don't need to be in tournaments together.

Many, probably most, players would be listed on multiple teams/organizations. You may be able to break it down if you were to list them by what team they were with last.

Like it has been said, many people/organizations contribute along the way. The "village effect" as mentioned earlier.

There aren't too many teams out there at that age level "playing just for the fun of playing." Most of them are there to "showcase" their players. That may be because most every tournament is promoted as a "showcase" tournament.

My opinion, there are too many showcase tournaments. And I haven't heard of one yet where there weren't a lot of college coaches.

A tournament such as the ASA Southern Nationals in Raleigh this past weekend where they played full regulation games (no time limits, no drop dead, no choreographing) will draw more coaches once they realize the games are played at a more intense level. Primarily because it is going to end with the best teams at the top. Because they are playing to win, not showcase! A coach doesn't have to wonder if a kid is in there because it was her turn; she will more than likely be in there because she needs to be to win the game!

Nothing wrong at all with the showcase concept but not every dang tournament!

 

...Hey GMan, you missed my point. I said that I'm cool with the "A" teams on one field, you know the so-called best teams. Most tourneys around NC/SC have a format by the directors to match talent levels. Hell, how hard is that to understand?

As for bigtime National type gigs, for example the "Rising Stars" in Fla. you won't find "average" teams. The competition might make a few teams look average, but to be in those type of big dances requires alot of hard work by the teams and their organizations year after year just to get the chance to play.

Now if you were a tournament director, how would you determine what team was "best" or "average"?

Next, would you turn down a $500 entry fee applied to your tourney by a team if your "showcase" was not full?

NO, and neither would I or anyone else.

Oh Phreak my buddy, once again i have to disagree. Having participated in Southern Nationals, East Coast Fireworks, Hot Times, and Dynamites, which all end w/ at least a single elimination tournament AND having been involved w/ the recruiting side w/ a couple of teams, I can't tell you how many times i've heard a college coach say, "I hate when the tournament starts, i can't tell where kids are and what time they are playing".
Now this is not my personal opinion, this is NUMEROUS college coaches telling me this face to face. In fact alot of the coaches leave Saturday from these tournaments for just that reason.
I know you are a fan of playing for something and leaving it all on the field, but FOR THIS these are the ways to an end. If they want to collect trophies, then play on a team that does. We try to get kids in college (hopefully w/ at least a little money) and THERE they can play leave it on the field (which i hope our kids have done anyway).
The college coaches have dictated this format, if they didn't i really believe it wouldn't be this way!

 

.........Hey GBuddy, trust me on this one, EVERY kid on our TB team signed or has signed to date with the exception of 2 and they had 5.0 GPAs and disregarded their college ball opps.

So, when it comes to knowing what the "best" is, the Fish knows! Guess what, we never were the best, but we tried, and we played pitch for pitch and toe to toe with the best.

I'll bet those "best' teams that we rocked would say our kids were not average.

You're right, the fixed times are more convenient for those who need them. I just hope it doesn't come down to all tournaments being run this way.

I'll keep my eyes out for the regulation tournaments as long as they last.
