Congratulations to Henderson Babe Ruth 16u All Stars who completed a long time goal of winning the Babe Ruth 16u World Series, many of these girls have played together since they were 8. Great job!

just wondering.........for the ballplayers (girls), how does a great "local / community-based" accomplishment like this compare to a similar travel team accomplishment where the team is usually comprised of players from various other counties / towns, cities?
also to high school team?

 

From my experience Babe Ruth is not as strong as TB. Probably would do well in a HS tournament.

They have somewhat different rules than a TB has. A little more restrictive I believe.

It's a great organization for the game. They have some really good players that also play TB.

And as this particular team's record indicates, they are national champions!

Jordan Garrett is an awesome pitcher. 101 strikeouts and 3 no hitters! She also swings a mean bat and is a great young lady that is an absolute blast to be around.

A little different from what I have seen. Our rec ball team won state this year and went to Louisianna for World Series. These girls all go to school together and play school ball (volleyball, basketball, softball, etc.) together. Some good points and some negative to this. But bottom line is these girls from Vance/Henderson county won the top prize for their organization. I just wish more folks would play rec ball and take it serious.

 

We come from Ohio, and it was discouraged for our daughters to play in rec ball tournaments if they also played in TB tournaments.

 

Babe Ruth teams are generally at a higher skill level than rec ball.

Rec teams usually don't have many TB players, if any. The skill level of rec teams in our area vary widely. Garner has one of the better rec organizations in the area.

I think it would benefit softball greatly in this area if we had competition between the organizations. Garner, Fuquay, Cleveland, Clayton, Wake Forest, Knightdale, Raleigh, Wilders Grove, West Raleigh, Apex, Wendell could really make a difference in the local skill level.

 

There are a couple girls and a coach from this team on our TB team. They told the head coach about this well in advance and it wasn't a problem. They missed a tournament here and there but how often do you have a realistic chance to make a run at winning a World Series championship against teams from all over the country?

I don't claim to know a lot but having 16U Babe Ruth World Series champion while setting the record for strike outs (by the way, the article was wrong, she had 114 strike outs!) and having 3 shutouts on your resume sounds pretty darn good to me, I don't care what organization it was!
