Dude it's App state softball. ACs high school team would probablly beat them.
People on here think college softball is big time. well unless you are the few big time teams it is not. I been through the small college softball scene and unless you are playing for the uppper tier teams it's not much of a big deal. Maybe 20 fans at the games, many of the teams couldn't win a good high school tournament, no exciting atmosphere, ect. Now if it was Carolina, NC State or teams like that different story. That being said I heard that Sherrill was taking the App. job?????? You just never know. I would say the money might be better and maybe the challenge to build something out of nothing

I guess that would be something, get Sherrill over there and go up and beat old Michigan again.

I am a fan of AC's program and admire what Coach Sherrill has acomplished but it is high school. I think the debate is over talent level and opportunity to recruit the type of players you want. Take a look at this link. http://www.goasu.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=21500&KEY=&SPID=12816&SPSID=106988. Every player on ASU's roster was all state, most multiple times. With all due respect I don't think any high school team would beat a D2 or D1 college team with this level of players.

...hey SCpal, sorry about the dumb blast, my bad.
Now for this reply, with respect, college softball is soooooooo far above HS that its a joke to compare the 2.

But, I will agree with you that there are some HS teams or programs now or in the past that fielded teams that could play with a college here or there.

I'm not gonna dis or prop any HS program along those lines but I'd venture to say that the HS program that had Monica Abbot, or Jenny Finch, etc. in the circle could have been a bug up a college team or two.

As for MS, no doubt he's an honored coach and I applaude what he does for our kids.

But to think that a job change to a different level is a step down is just not right.

Last but not least, you folks in the western part of the state have been blessed with awesome talent for along time and it did not start in HS.

    Props for the hard work!

Marlinfan1. No problem on the jab. All in good fun for me. Guess we'll all just have to wait and see how it all turns out. I would like to see the App. program turned around. right now it's not real good but with the right pieces in place it could come around

Won't get into any of this BS about college vs HS, but let me just say whoever gets this job is walking into a gold mine for the upcoming year. Over half of last year's team was new, and yet they were close to .500. Lost basically nobody, and with returners this team may be the most talented in the SOCON next year. The real judge of how new coach does will be 3-4 years down the road, but trust me I would love to coach this group for a year!!!!

Ok Scfan, i was gonna let this ride or let the Fishman tackle it, but i've kinda taken offense to the spirit of your post.

I had one kid at a Southern Conference school, and App State is NO pushover on ANY level, and NOW i have a kid at a DIII school and a NAIA school. I do realize there are some BAD college teams and SOME could not beat an average HS team, but the MAJORITY are very competitive, and have kids that could play at any level. To say only UNC and State are worth watching or only have 20 fans is simply NOT true. My youngest had opportunities to go to bigger schools and CHOSE to attend a small DIII school. Don't know what small college circuit you've been around but i'm sure they would take issue w/ your take on their teams.

As Ralphie May would say, you don't have to come politically correct, but you MUST come correct!

This has absolutely nothing to do with this thread but I want to thank you for your signature. I have been trying to remember a player that I've brought up in discussions about baserunning and for the life of me I couldn't remember.

Finally, I remember! Her name is Lucinda Bost; played for South Granville back in the day. One of the best at stealing bases. Played around the time of Stacey Fox, a pitcher for S. Granville.

Now if I could just remember who I was discussing it with. There have been several.

Sorry for the interruption; just wanted to thank you.

    Now, where was I?
