Have heard from some of the fall workouts that the college guys are not that happy with the new bats with regard to being able to hit the ball as far. Of course, for the pitchers it is a different story

Haven't heard from mine yet, but they all knew they would likely perform more like wood. Like you said, the hitters are not happy, but the pitcher are.

New bats to be used by all NCAA teams this year are going to drastically change the game. The bats may have less pop than wood based on early reports from BP. Will be very interesting to see how this effects the game.

at my son's school, they are actually using wood bats during fall practice to prepare for the new bats.

My son's school is also using wood bats, I don't think the new bats have arrived. I honestly hope they do hit like wood or wish they would change to wood bats for college.

Ready for another season Catcher10? I at least hope the sweet spot on the new bats are larger than a wood bat even if the speed leaving the bat is the same. Has anyone heard about his aspect?

I heard from a parent of a player at an ACC school that is using the new bats that the sweet spot is very small, smaller even than on a wood bat. So you not only have less velo leaving the bat but a very small sweet spot. Not sure if the specs will change before spring or not but the players do not like them, and they have the comparison of wood in the summer and still do not like them

It will interesting to see how this develops. There is a noticeable difference, that's for sure. You have to wonder if the bat mfgrs and the NCAA are garnering feedback from coaches on the bats and if they will be tweaked or if it is what it is.

I'm guessing a player's speed from home to first and on the base paths will be even more important now. Better chance of beating out more ground balls and also fewer balls finding the gaps which will make advancing runners more difficult.. What do you gurus and coaches think?
