I have been hearing that middle school was moving to 43' this spring. I have not heard the official word on it. Can anyone fill me in?

I am out of Lee County NC.

.....no slander to the middle school kids or talent, but 43 feet is too far for them to pitch. I'm not saying that they can't throw it that far but to me 43 feet for a middle school kid is like having a kid hit with a bat thats too heavy.

Improper equipment, and/or conditions will alter how a kid develops in a negative way.

We moved to 43 last year and did not have any problems. But we were blessed with a couple of good pitchers. This year we will have to see.

Oh it is happening all over the place. I agree they shouldn't be moving it, but most in this area are.

our head ad hasnt heard a thing about this or a move to take the mound back for middle school. i kinda hope they keep it that way, 40 feet is great for building fundamentals instead of pushing to throw at 43. jmho

I coach middle school. If you don't have pitching, one step doesn't make it that much different. I don't know if you guys realize that middle school is 14u aged girls. Our conference is divided up into sides. (Five teams on one side, and six on the other) Of the five teams on our side, there are at least four pitchers who throw pretty well and break fifty mph consistently. If your conference has week pitching, then your pitcher is three feet farther back. If a kid can throw a strike consistently from 40ft, they can from 43 at that age. I heard a coach arguing to stay at 40ft. She said the same stuff I saw on here. When the season started, she had a left hander throwing very hard, and blowing everyone away from 40. LOL

...no slander canipe, but YES, the folks on here know, period.
Cookie cutting development of young kids never works.
you say if a young kid can throw a strike from 40...then they can throw it for a strike at 43.

    Wow!

    Good luck.
