When a HS player "commits" to a college, clearly that is not binding on either party. He can change his mind and the college can change its mind. What is not clear to me is is % scholarship discussed/committed at the time of the committment. I guess what I am asking is...what is the value of making a committment to either party?

    thanx

I have actually heard that the players that get the most opportunities are the best players, period, regardless of what money they did or maybe did not even get, because the programs need to win.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

this is very true. Obviously the recruiting process is not perfect. there are many cases where a player who is a recruited walk on out plays someone who was offered athletic money and wins the position. The higher levels you look at the more often you will see player even losing their scholarship to a better recruit or a player that came in and won the job. Athletic money is year to year with no promise it is going to be there the next. To Errors point, make sure the academics are first. If you can get a package that includes academic money you should seriously consider it---keep your grades--keep your money, no taking it away because someone out plays you.
