On this I agree. While not encountering any evil conduct, my DD had a terrible HS coach and all I could advise her to do was persevere through it. After each season, I would then contact the AD with the evidence of the year and persist on having this coach removed... it took till her freshmen year in college for the AD to finally act. Better late than never we thought and we hope our efforts helped kids behind her. With all that said, I dont think she would trade her high school softball experience for sitting out all those seasons for anything. A healthy kid will long remember the good times and quickly forget the bad.

I think you should save your recommendation for someone who asks you for it, but thanks anyway.

This is the best post of all! To many parents don't let their kids fail. They try to do everything for them. The part about learning from differnt people is what playing ball is really about.

To quote Mike Candera, players are not learning to compete, often in travel ball players are playing the clock. Coaches will stall and do other things waiting for the horn. In High School you have to play to win, it's often one game in that day, you may not see that team again for another year.

When we played ball we played because it was fun. Never played for any other reason. I had a few schools contact me back in the day. I wasn't interested in playing in college. Played recreation ball in college and as a kid had alot of fun.

Ask Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, what he does to coaches that are losers. He sure don't keep them around to build the teams character. Ask Josh McDaniels former Denver Broncos coach what happened to him when he failed to "develop a winner". These are just recent events that stand out in my mind, but same goes for college coaches and some high school coaches. Nobody wants a losing coach, it is an undisputed fact!

I have been reading this whole thread and some posts are very well said. But I have a question.....

What do you consider a successful coach in high school?

I see guys bashing coaches on here and saying that it is not worth their time or their childs time. So I was just wondering that question

If successful coaching is measured only by wins and losses then then there are only a handful of successful coaches in the state.

When I look back on the season and I feel like each player is better than they were at the beginning, that they have tried to be the best they can be, and if I feel like I am a better coach than I was at the beginning, and I have tried to be the best I can be, and I want to be better, then I feel successful.

I agree with you totally but it seems to some people on here that if they are not winning then it is the coaches fault 100%. I also agree that it is not fun losing and if your going to have fun then winning has to play a part as well.

Let me say this about sports and being recruited..If your good enough the colleges will find you
