When a coach offers your son the oppty to play for his school he offers a scolarship %. Yes there is an agreement on scholarship % and of course a two way committment...coach to recruit and recruit to coach. Unlike football it is very rare for either to renege on that committment. Reasons it could happen from the schools perspective mostly one reason...grades. Keep your grades up!

    Broken Hearted Kids

Ask Trevor Kelly and Cameron Capel if they think the recruiting process is right. Both had top 10 schools de-commit to them after being COMMITTED for almost a year and a half. Smaller D-1's, D-2's, D-3's , and JUCO's just waiting to see who gets the next call.

Are you sure you have your facts straight? I'd be willing to bet these kids knew what their situation was going into their committment. The successful programs are going to be leaning against the door trying to hold back all the kids who would accept a situation to try and gain a roster spot. Some of the situations accepted are likely conditional.

I saw Capel play last year and he 's a real good player. I guess he originally was committed to play at South Carolina & then I saw on Cockytalk that he de-committed from the Gamecocks, and had committed to play at UNC-Wilmington. Now, I think he's going to Pitt Community. He should do real well there. He's a good lefty hitter. Last I heard on Kelley was that he was Chapel Hill bound. Course, you never know what goes on behind the scenes in recruiting. I hope it works out for both of them.

Try to keep in mind that there are a number of factors that can prevent a recruit from showing up on a program's initial list of signees when it first appears; and, in many cases, it means absolutely nothing about a recruit's status or intent to enroll and play wherever he's said he will.

It's also important to note that the NCAA prevents a program from identifying a committed recruit if he hasn't signed a National Letter of Intent or hasn't yet met whatever conditions might have been established for his acceptance as a student-athlete.

It stands to reason that we'll see more of this than we once did because of the NCAA's relatively new restriction that scholarships are to be divided among 27 of the 35 players on the roster. This implies that we'll see a higher proportion of "recruited walk-on" players on many teams' rosters than we once did. "Recruited walk-ons" don't sign National Letters of Intent; so, they won't show up on any official list until they make the team's playing roster for the Fall or Spring.

It's easy to misunderstand a recruit's exact circumstance and/or understanding with their program of choice. Often, it's a highly personal thing; one that need not be the subject of speculation on message boards.

(My comments have no specific application to any of the players named prior to this on this thread. I don't know them or their specific circumstances.)

I take one thing from this great thread... make sure you match your talents with an appropriate level school. If you have a player that may still have some significant physical maturation to do that player having an opportunity to grow into his talents will mean the difference between success and terrible disappointment.

when I hear someone "de-committed" in baseball my first thought is grades as that is sometimes the case.
