    Good List, But...

Very nicely compiled list! I see 2014 early commitments on there though, which is very wrong imho. So much can change, both in a young lady's life, and in the coaching/school over the time it takes someone to go from 9th grade to a college freshman. I don't know that I see the value in committing to a college while in 9th grade. Just a comment...

    Not many chances taken.

Most of these kids are no brainers when you watch them play. The big schools have been taking them this early for awhile now. From the players end I am not crazy about the early commitments but I understand why they do. If they don't most of the top schools will fill at their positions if they wait.

    Commit

As stated, commit or others will take your place and if a top 25 team is after you and offers what you need in an education, why not?

    Top 25 school

Most of these big programs have 23 or more on the roster and more coming up behind you. The coaches will make sure the freshman or sophomores get at least one bat in, or one inning of playing time, and post your batting average to make it look like your getting a lot of playing time ...when your not. Why not pick a smaller D1 program with an excellent academic reputation and a chance to start. It depends on what you want to do. Do you want the glory of being on a top 25 team and get very little playing time or go to a school and get plenty of playing time. Depends on what your objectives are.

I agree and it makes one wonder if it has anything to do with girls that commit and get all that signing day, local newspaper articles and TBR glory then quit before their season ever starts (some 2010 grads have already quit). The player needs to know if she can handle going from a "star" to just one of 25 other good players. If you want to play and get an excellent education you should take a look at the smaller DI and very good DII programs NC has to offer.

    To each his own

Each scholar athlete and their family should decide what they feel works for them based on their research and discussions with people they trust. Some kids want to go to a certain school for academic reasons and are willing to take the chance of riding the pine for a period of time. You are correct softball is a huge commitment and it takes going into the situation: "with eyes wide open"! Let's hope they all get what they were seeking.

    Objectives

I agree....the tuition rules have changed also... can you afford to go out of state...how much are they offering you..can your parents afford it....what are the risks if you don't like the program after a year of playing..or not playing...it's a lot of hard work to get recruited..visiting the school...research the recruiting history...whether you like the players you meet...and how confident is the coach in you...there are a lot of factors in the decision you make...

I don't think they can go wrong if they pick their college for the education and not the softball. The education is the ultimate goal. Softball should just be the icing on the cake.
