Im curious as to others thoughts on the 'expansion' to the number of travel teams that have cropped up over the last couple of years. While I believe it is good for the sport, I think it puts the quality of the game in a bad state.
I have seen, what I believe, to be a number of teams created and coached by a pitchers parent just to allow that player 'unlimited' pitching time. I know we want the best for our daughters but why do parents think creating a team is a solution?
If I put my daughter with other good players, she will step up her game to play better at any position.
    Just my two cents.

Not only pitchers parent but SS parents seem to fit this same equation. They all think their kid is the best and if they arent getting the playing time then they build a new team. The main problem is that most of them were playing on this type of team to begin with but didnt see the problem then and dont see the problem now.

I wasnt smart enough 2 years ago to take the offer we have now and move my Daughter. She played for 2 dads. 1 had a kid playing SS and theother CF (mine isnt a starter at either position for the ones that think we left for that reason). It didnt matter the errors that were made or how bad it hurt the team.....nobody but those kids played those 2 positions and it hurt more than it helped.

I am giving the same advice that I got from a guy that post on this board.....get away from that situation if your daughter is serious about playing the game at a higher level. If your kid is only concerned with getting better for high school ball and having fun as her number 1 goal then you should be fine......if her dreams of playing for a good college and being seen are #1 to her then I strongly sugest you as a parent get on the ball, realize that suzie might not be the best P, SS, 3rd, C etc. etc. on the team and get her with people that will develope her game at the right position and then go sit in the outfield and leave her alone.

    Daddy Ball

That is known as daddy ball. If your daughter wants to get better and play at the next level what ever that mayb try and find a team with a coach that does not have a daughter on the team. I was able too a couple of years ago and it was the best thing I could have done for my daughter. Put the best 9 on the field and see what happens.

Amen, too much Daddy ball out there!!! It can be very difficult to find a team that doesn't have a Daddy coach.

    The Sins of Daddy Ball...lol

The Deadly Sins of Daddy Ball
A.Or have a coach that lives in a certain district and lives and works for the parents... who's kids are on the team. Also is good friends with the neighborhood parents and not with you . The outsider...lol
    B. Or have a coach that is the high school coach of the district where most of his travel ball players come.
    C. Or have a daddy ball coach that is providing most of the funding on the his team . The big red flag!!!
    D. You should recoginze real quick the bias of the coach in practice. If your daughter is clearly better than the coaches daughter at that position and is the same age...and he puts your daughter is right field or last bat..you know he is bais. LOL
    E. Or after he sees your daughters incredible talents...then looks at you like he smells something bad..and the parents that he's close to... treat you like you got the plague.
    F. After he orders uniforms for the team...he forgets your daughter uniform...or forgets her jersey number..and forgets your name..lol

    Any others?

    i agree

I agree with everything that has been said above. It happens, But to get a girl on a team that is very competitive. DB may have to be the way you start. Then move on.

    Daddy Ball

In some cases, the kid of the coach gets the shaft as he tries to keep everyone happy and it is easier to sit his kid.

Now many teams started due to "daddy Ball" and have evolved to be great teams and organizations. You have to start somewhere! Also, many of these dads study and work hard to understand the game so they can provide guidance to every kid on the team.

I agree, once your daughter gets old enough to understand the game and becomes competitive, in most cases she will excel more under the guidance of someone else. The relationship with your young lady will be much better as well. haha

Recruiting for college ball is very competitive and it takes a lot more work than most seem to think. A team that will work with you and your daughter to prepare a plan and execute that plan will make the chances of success much greater.
