With the high school baseball season about to start in a couple weeks...who are some of the freshmen that look to stand out this season on the diamond?

probably going to be a JV guy but Cary HS has a 6'5" LHP. he can also swing the bat. he'll be one to atleast keep tabs on because you can't teach height.

Markel Jones-West Brunswick...kid is a 3 sport varsity athlete and only a sophomore. Will play centerfield for baseball and is already getting looks. Should have an impact for the Trojans!

Khalil Macklin from Nash Central. Xavier Macklin's little brother. Might play as a freshman for the Bulldogs. Real athletic, like his brother was.

My pick for Impact Soph this coming up season: We watched Kirk Morgan (Mallard Creek) play last year as a freshman and, frankly, he was in our top ten of all players regardless of class (fresh, soph, junior, senior). Definitely one to watch. He will be playing with a very, very talented senior class at Mallard Creek and they could go far in the playoffs.

It's tough to predict a freshman player to have an impact on the varsity team. Some of the most talented freshmen are on a traditionally strong program like Providence or Ardrey Kell, so their opportunities are minimal. Most freshmen may have an impact on a team that is not so strong.

Personally, I'd like to hear about any freshmen we need to watch for whether Varsity or JV's and what makes them stand out.

There are some really good Sophmores in the Charlotte area who all will be making huge impacts for their respective High Schools. Here are a few players that made big impacts as Freshmen on their Varsity Teams.
Jeremy Schellhorn - Big Strong Kid with a sweet swing plays for Weddington. He made All SCC as a Freshman, Batted 400 with 3 HR. Plays 3rd.,1st. and Pitcher.
Kirk Morgan - Very Good Middle Infielder with a tremendous left hand bat. Kirk has great hands and footwork can play with anyone. He will be in the heart of Mallard Creek's talented line up.
Colby Barnette -Colby started in the Outfield and Pitched for Piedmont last year as a Freshman. Colby has a loose arm that will do nothing but get stronger as he works with the weights. Colby has a lot of pop in his bat as well.
It will be exciting to watch these players as well as others in the Charlotte Area grow and continue to develop into College Prospects.

Weddington will have several to make impacts this year. HC#33 is right. The Schellhorn kid can play. He will create a lot of night sweats for pitchers this season. With the production he had as a Freshman, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens as a Sophomore. He's only gotten bigger and stronger. With the departure of f Boone and Kersnowski. He'll be expected to provide some POP in the line up.

Alexander Bostic is another returning starter from last years squad. This Sophomore has gotten bigger and stronger as well. I think he's close to 6-4 now. He'll anchor down CF and will most likely see innings on the mound.

Daniel Calabretta is Freshman who is highly touted. haven't seen him play, but if half of what is said about him is right....then it will not be long before his name will be high on many recruiters list
