While watching several scrimmage games this past Saturday, I had notices that many players are still swinging bats that no longer meet the BESR-ABI certification. With as many Umpires that were on the field this past week end for training, someone should be checking the bats. If anyone needs to know what Composite Bats are legal, go to NFHS.ORG. there is a complete list on there web-site.

this is a mess IMHO. I asked and I asked and I asked before I finally came to the conclusion only those BESR bats LISTED on the web site were legal this year... so thats what I finally purchased.. one of the BESR bats listed. Right after that the HS team started hitting indoors and one of the coaches told me that the local head of umpires had said EVERY BESR from last year was legal. Not only is this what the ump told him but I have had good baseball men tell me the same thing.

I told the coach I didnt think that was correct and that I would have a copy of the web page in my players bat bag if there was ever any question about his bat.

I hope this issue gets crystal and soon OTW we will have the biggest mess this year we have ever seen with bats thrown out after big hits etc etc.

ps: my son says there is no comparison to the BESR Combat model we bought and the Easton Surge BBCOR one of his teammates had purchased.

Agreed about the big mess about to happen in High School Baseball if it does not become Crystal Clear through out all.

    Bat listing is official

Check the high school website: www.nchsaa.org the only legal bats are listed with a picture of each. Click on baseball when you get to the site.

    Thanks Strechy,
This is the web-site we used. I sure hope the umpires get it right before the season starts. We saw a few Easton Stealth BCN IMX (BLUE COMPOSITES) being used this past week end. In fact with all the umpires that were on the field in training, None of the bats were checked.

here is another example of how difficult this rule is to implement: The Easton Surge is generally being thought of as one of the best of the new of BBCOR bats... but they also make a BESR bat that looks virtually indentical without close inspection.

:book:The Umpires need to get it figured out in a hurry. Games start in less than a week. The web-site that Strechy listed has a complete list of Legal Composite Bats for use as of Jan.19,2011. There are only 3 Manufactures Listed - Louisville Slugger,Combat and Demarini whose Composite Bats are listed. Easton does not have any of their Composite BESR Bats approved according to the list.
