Just got a look at the schedule for Weddington this year. There will be a lot of great baseball. Non conference schedule includes Ardrey Kell, Providence, Myers Park, Butler, Piedmont, Cuthbertson and Charlotte Christian just to name a few. They will surely be battle tested come playoffs.

    Can't Wait...Cuthbertson Baseball

Can't wait until Saturday, March 12th at 2:00PM at Weddington. If the weather is good then the crowd should be even better. Cuthbertson Vs Weddington! It took a year, but the rivalry has begun.
I just can't imagine what Weddington might have had if they didn't open up Marvin Ridge and Cuthbertson. Probably a lot of D1 prospects warming the bench. More schools = more opportunities!

There is no doubt Coach Poole has put forth a challenging schedule for his Team. I can assure you, he will have them ready to compete. Right off the bat, (No Pun Intended) their first game will be a fun one to watch since Weddington beat AK last year. Coach Bagwell will want bragging right agianst his close friend Poole. The season can not get here soon enough.

The HS baseball season success starts during the conference games. The stronger the competition at the beginning of the year, the better the team will be ready when the conf games start. W/L records don't mean a thing until then.

It's amazing the talent shared between those 3 schools in Union County.

Just think back to 2008, the year before Marvin opened. The Weddington JV squad went undefeated that year in the SW4A. The following year they lost 6 of nine starters to the Marvin Ridge split or other schools and they still won the conference tournament the following year.

    That JV team included:
    Tyler Zupcic App State
    Danny Yelverton Gardner Webb
    Clay Tresher Lenoir Rhyne
    Ty Litton CO Rockies
    Brad Collins Gardner Webb
    Shane Basen UNCC
    Byron Haag Wingate
    Justin Setzer Presbyterian
    Seth Boyce Wingate
    TJ Miller Francis Marion

Now add in the Cuthbertson split:

    Peter Hendel UNC
    Cam Tekker UVA
    Preston Morrison TCU
    John Magum TBD

Just think of the players that could be sitting if the split does not happen!

All three teams will continue to be strong this year and it is going to be fun to watch. Still a bunch of high level college players to come from all three schools. It would be even more fun if Cuthbertson was in the same conference. Looking forward to watching this play out.

    Weddington Schedule

While I haven't seen every schedule out there, Weddington has got to have the most difficult.
    The schedule starts out:
    Ardrey Kell
    Butler
    Piedmont
    Charlotte Christian
    JM Robinson
    Cuthbertson
    Myers Park
    Providence

This could be a real good Weddington team and start out with several losses. There is no easy win in this out of conference schedule. This group will be battle tested by the time play offs roll around.

    Weddington vs PHS scrimmage

I saw Weddington play last night against PHS. Very impressed with the hitting top to bottom. Of course nobody is in mid season form, but you can see they will put the bat on the ball. From a pitching standpoint, they are deep, but don't seem to have the one stud who can throw gas and dominant a game, but they certainly can pitch and will do better as the season moves forward. Lastly, the team showed a lot of class and seem to be well coached.

Marvin Ridge's non-conference schedule has got to be at least as difficult as Weddington's...it includes:
Piedmont, Christian, Country Day,South Meck, AK, Cuthbertson,Myers Park, Mount Pleasant, Hickory Ridge, Hough and the East Meck Easter Tourney. I would say that the two teams are going to be tested and will be battling it out for the conference title. They are both going to have a few losses on their record this year but come playoff time I think it whould pay off. Good luck to everyone at Weddington this year.

    Cuthbertson

If Cuthbertson loses a game this year there will be crying in baseball. They may trip in a one-game series, but not sure anyone at any level could hang with them in a three gamer.

Like Baseballx3 noted above, there is a huge amount of baseball talent within the 5-6 square miles that make up the Weddington, MR, Cuthbertson attendance zones. The fact is....if your on the field playing for one of these 3 teams, you can play!! I'd like to see Cuthbertson go through the season with one loss, and Marvin Ridge with three. Of course that's the number of times I expect Weddington to play them.

Best wishes to East99's and Baylee Duckdog's squads this season.

I expect this high level of play to continue for a few years based on the middle school tryouts. Weddignton Middle had @ 80 kids try out for baseball. I understand that there were similar numbers at MR and Cuthbertson as well.
