About Dickens: Sounds like he has an overactive ego and is playing head games with the batter by praying. I recall coaching my team a few years ago when the opposing pitcher would wait till each batter got in the box and then he would make the sign of the cross and kiss his fingers. My team captain got our lineup together between the 1st and 2nd innings and here is what happened unbeknownst to me. Our first batter stepped into the box in our 2nd inning and old Pedro paused as he made the sigh of the cross and kissed his fingers, then looked in for the sign. As he was getting the sign from his catcher, my batter stepped out of the box and made the sign of the cross and kissed his fingers, then immediately got back into the box. He proceeded to hit a fence slamming double. I have no idea about cause and effect but we never saw a religious move from Pedro again and his bullpen rescued him in the third inning.
I would never demean religion but kids don't like the other side playing head games. And you would not believe the respect our captain got from then on for being a captain. My captain told me it is ok for an opposing player to call for help from his God but don't do it in our face.

Btw, this little incident should not take away from the fact that this was a great game. Hopefully someone will post the status of Will Sapp (injured on CF collision) who is a tremendous player. Big win for NW this early in the season. These teams will meet again, Im sure.

Thanks for asking about Will. Spent several hours at the ER on Friday night. CT scan came back completely negative which is good. He did substain a concussion. Jaw is extremely sore, hard to eat for him. No headache this morning (Sunday) which is really good. He's more upset about not making the catch. Much appreciation goes out to the trainer from NW. Don't know her name (Betsy or Patsy) but she's great and knows her stuff. Thanks for all your help and information.

Will may be able to play Tuesday, we'll have to see what the Dr's say Tuesday morning. Being very careful. Missing 1 game won't hurt him

It was fun to watch the young Hough Team compete against one of the best teams in the State. Hough threw three sophomores against Providence and and was in a position to win the game. Gragilla and Dueitt teamed up to keep the Providence hitters in check and keep the game close until late in the 7th. Hough bats came alive in the 3rd with three consecutive two out hits including doubles from Daddio and Dueitt to tie the score. Daddio and Piedmont homered to even the game back up in the 5th. Panthers won on walk-off error. Great ballgame and certainly fun to watch. Hough travels to Lake Norman Tuesday for an early I-Meck challenge.

Ryan Mayhew picked up his 1st win giving up two hits in 5 innings while striking out 10. At the play the Titans got a grand slam form Mayhew and another homerun from Chad Felton. Josh Clark and Kyle Humphrey both had two hits for the Titans. Dylan Ward took the loss for the Eagles. Luke Dunlap had a double for Eagles.

Did they play the Impact tourney in Cary yesterday? Haven't seen a word about it anywhere. Usually some good games played there.

INFIELD FLY & SQUEEZE --> TAKE NOTICE!

    Infield fly and Squeeze -

Have either of you EVER had a conversation with Dylan Dickens? Do you know anything of his character? Though I was not at that game, I have coached Dylan for the past 3 years at Person. While I did hear that he removed his undershirt because he was not comfortable (and yes I would have said something to him about removing it on the mound....), I just want you to know a few things about this young man. He is one of the finest Christian young men I have ever coached. He is sincerely praying and thanking God for the talent and blessings that He has bestowed on Dylan. If you think that is showing off and playing mind games then "shame on you". Personally if that bothers you then you need to just get over it. Don't you come on TBR and bash one of my kids without knowing him and his character and demeanor. Dylan Dickens is truly humble if you know him. He is a leader and he is grateful to God for the opportunity he has. I have seen too many people here bash young players when they don't even know them. \

Dylan is sincere, comes from an awesome family and I can assure you if is dad thought he was trying to show off, he would deal with it himself. Dylan has nothing but respect for the game and his opponents. But dont get me wrong, he wont back down and is as competitive as I have ever seen.

If either of you wish to know more about Dylan, ask before you assume...

    Thanks!

(Braves-- sorry for venting, but you know me well enough to know i take up for my boys)
