    Who Needs the Dirtbags Anyway!

You guys are doing a good job of arguing with each other. You obviously don't need the Dirtbags to keep up the Hatin'.

    Remix?

Not sure if ASU86 is still out there --- curious how those SCP sticks are looking at the start of the spring? I think they have 13 home runs in the first two weeks - but that's just the 2012 group. Even as strong as that is, I don't think it's the sticks that people should be concerned about. They may not need many runs to be successful.

Campana is a stud batting over 400 with 4 HRs already in only 5 games, but Buttery is batting almost 700 w/1 hr. Maclatchie is batting over 500 w/4 hrs; JD Long is leading his top team in hits/avg; Herbert is getting hot, John Mangum (pre season Lousivile Slugger all american) Honeycut team USA participant, Brandon Goodson (Liberty signee) Preston Tiller tearing it up at AK and of course Kyle Whitman (Clemson) - that's a good batting order and the pitching will be the best in the region by far. 7 studs who can control any game. Its going to be exciting watching them surpass their record last year for team wins.

Don Hutchins is one of the most competitive people I know. He refuses to allow players on his team that aren't like-minded. Couple competitiveness with talent...and you are going to be an elite team. Don's teams are always elite.

Early High School performances begin to look like Don might be equally excited about his 2013 (current sophmores) team with the likes of Morgan, Schellhorn, Bostic and others. Way to go AGAIN, Don Hutchins.

I'm still here PATIENTLY watching the young season unfold. Let's hold judgement until the conference seasons get well under way and see if the hitters continue at this pace against teams and coaches (especially SW4A) who know the hitter's holes and have pitchers who can execute game plans. Let's not forget that we all know the Providence field is no more than a glorified softball field, (not the player's fault), where fly balls routinely turn into HRs. If you go back to my post you'll see I gave Campagna and Whitman their props. Where are these other stats coming from? They are not on maxpreps and I know Higgy and Baggs aren't sharing! Share with me where I can look at all these stats and enlighten myself. I'm sure alot of others would like to be able to have access to them also. Lastly my post concerned the showcase circuit. The tournaments the Panthers play in are stacked. Let's make sure we are comparing apples to apples. Outside the SW4A, most leagues don't have the kind of pitching these kids will see consistently see in the spring and summer.

Stats are stats...eyes are eyes. I heard a scorekeepr yesterday tell a good player "I gave you a hit on that dinker just to help you out, made you 4-5"

Blue-is-true.....How right you are. Stats and daddys don't influence folks like Don Hutchens when he selects ballplayers.
Would be great if scorekeepers kept it honest; but sometimes they feel daddys looking over their shoulder.

While I agree that big sticks are important, I really have to agree with Baylee and the fact that SCP may not need many runs to be successful. SCP's pitching staff has got to be one of the strongest in the region. Brody Koerner (Clemson), Trent Thornton (UNC), Cameron Tekker (UVa), Ty Buttrey(Providence HS), Brian Donovan (WCU?), Brad Stone(Audrey Kell HS), Nathan Helvey (Fort Mill HS), and Michael Herbert (Providence HS). Most of you know that Tyler Chadwick (Marvin Ridge HS), Jackson Campagna (Clemson), Kyle Whitman (Clemson), and AJ Larson (Butler HS) also are strong pitchers when called upon. I really think that Don's approach is right on.
Reminds me of a D1 team in the ACC. Currently ranked number 5 in the nation with a 16 - 1 record. Batting average is .308 with ONLY 1 homerun. Are you ready for this....ERA of 1.71. They had the lowest ERA last year in the nation as a team and missed going to the CWS by 1 game. UVa's baseball team was almost shut down a number of years ago, but has made a tremendous comeback with their pitching staff and think the same will hold true for the Panthers.
Augie garrido has always said that baseball "Is a game of the unexpected" and anything can happen on any given day, but without a pitching staff you got nothing. IMHO...
