I get mixed results when asking this question so will ask here. How is the pitching distance measured?

Is it from the front of home plate to front of rubber, front of home plate to back of rubber, back of home plate to front of rubber, back of home plate to back of rubber?

I know it's hard to believe cheeze but he was dead serious. But wait, it gets better... We told him we measured it with a tape (which we did before he got there) and it was at 43'. We are middle school which is still at 40'. He actually stepped it off and said it was fine. Wasn't until we pulled the tape back out and showed him that he said if we measured it correctly from front to front, it was "close enough".

By the way, this incident was a while ago but the question came up again earlier this week which reminded me of this.

    How to handle

When you are subjected to an umpire that refuses to acknowledge a "rule" or blatantly decides to not follow it.... you have 13 magic words you can use...

" I wanna protest your decision as it is a miss-application of the rule"

This is only good for a issue concerning a rule, not something that is subjective, such as balls and strikes, out or safe on a play, catch or no catch.

This forces the ump to address the issue immediately, with rule book, or what ever tool is needed to get it right. It also requires him to file an incident report with his/her assignor etc. This proves to the umps "boss" where extra training is needed.

Three things to be aware of.
    1. That you are correct.
    2. See 1
    3. Be prepared for your strike zone to become the size of a soup can.

Am I crazy or is there a misinformation being put out there about pitching distance in MS. I just had a local MS coach call me and ask me to help him move his mound to 43'. Isn't MS still 40'. He has a game today so if someone knows which it is, I need an answer ASAP! He said his AD told him he needed to move it.

The coach just called me back and said the booking agent they use said it is supposed to be 43' this year. Maybe I'm being hardheaded but, the wording I'm seeing says High School Varsity will be 43' beginning with 2011 season. I think we're asking for trouble by making 12 yr olds throw 43'. Doesn't sound like much but look at the difference last year when HS moved back. Anyway, going to help him move it.
