    Conference Game

Greene Central 9 Southwest Edgecombe 1

Wes Sowers tosses a complete game not sure if he gave up more than 1 hit, he also had 12 strikeouts and to top it off he hit not 1 but 2 home runs in the game. His catcher #15 also hit a two run bomb.

Charlotte Country Day 3....Cary Academy 0

    Cary A....000 000 0....0..1..1
    CCDS......000 021 x....3..9..0

    Pitching:

    CCDS William Frazier 6IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 9K, 2BB....WP (2-0)
    CCDS Lee Harrison 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 1K, 0BB...SV
    Cary AJ Ingalls 6IP, 9H, 3R, 3ER, 0K, 1BB...LP

    Hitting:

CCDS Lee Harrison 2-3, double, RBI
CCDS William Frazier 1-3, triple, RBI
    CCDS Patrick Langdon 1-1, RBI
    CCDS Sammy Brown 2-2
    Cary Davis Bryson 1-3, double

The Bucs were in a tight battle in their home opener as no runs were scored until the bottom of the fifth frame. William Frazier tossed one-hit ball for 6 innings with 9 Ks and Lee Harrison closed it out with clean 7th inning for the save. The only hit for Cary Academy came on a fly ball hugging the left field line that just deflected off the leftfielder's glove as he closed on it. The Bucs broke the scoring drought in the fifth when William Frazier tripled to deep center to score the runner from first and Lee Harrison followed with an RBI double down the LF line. Patrick Langdon had a good day at the plate with a sharp single and a long sacrifice fly to score a nice insurance run....the Bucs go to 5-1 for the season.

If anyone has details please post. All I know is that Michael Boles and Hunter Conley pitched complete games.

    East Meck v. Ardrey Kell

AK broke open a tight pitcher's duel between two of the SW4A's best hurlers in the 6th inning, plating 5 runs over the last two innings to win 7-0. A couple of costly errors hurt the Eagles, dearly with the Knight batters making EM pay both times. Meanwhile, Chris McCue was dominant for Ardrey Kell, allowing only 1 hit in his 6 innings of work. EM ptcher Lou Trosch battled the Knight hitters into the 6th inning, before giving way to Ian Ashworth with the score 3-0. Alex Leach came up big for the Knights, slamming a solo HR over the right field fence for the Knights in the 6th. He followed that with a double in the 7th. Logan Ratledge was a perfect 2-2 on the night. His 2 out triple set up the game's first run when Brett Lang poked a single into right field.

Great atmosphere over at the Field of Dreams (Mmm-mmm great dogs and burgers) and the baseball in the SW4A can't be beat. Friend of mine, who played at Clemson and later made the show with the Angels, came to his first EM game and told me it looked like college baseball back in the day. I certainly can't disagree.

    AK 001 012 3 7 9 2
    EM 000000 0 0 1 3

WP Chris McCue, LP Lou Trosch
Hitters: EM Jackson Reisterer (1-3 2B) AK Alex Leach (2-4 HR, 2B), Logan Ratledge (2-2 3B)

    Weddington vs Parkwood

Weddington picked up its second conference win over Parkwood, but it did not come easy. Weddington wins 3-2 in the 9th. Don't have all the stats, but:

Colby Spivey pitched a solid game through 6.
David Pope came in relief to ultimately get the win.
Weddington had multiple chances to win the game but could not execute on advancing runners very well. In a game in which they needed to manufacture a run they struggled against Parkwood's pitching.

Daniel Bayha came up in the 9th with bases loaded, one out and got the winning run across with a sharply hit ball up the middle the was knocked down by the second baseman but was unable to make a play.

Chase Prillaman and Alex Morales both had good nights at the plate while Alex made a couple of great plays in center.

Parkwood's starting pitcher kept Weddington hitters off balance all night with a great mix of pitches and a very consistent and well located fast ball. (didn't get his name)

St. David's drops a tough one...

to defending state champs Kerr Vance Academy 5-2 last night in Henderson. Conner Stevens and Matt Comer both pitched well but were outdueled by KVA's John Allen and Tyler Bolton. The Warriors had a chance to take the lead in the top of the seventh with bases loaded and one out but struck out to end the game. Good game on both sides!
