    Perfect example of EXCEPTION!

Bold print noted! Perfect example of the exception to the rule power pitcher! Nice job by Carley, I am sure the college coaches are all over her, wow 83 wins, you certainly played a lot of games for a Gold team. What were some of the tournaments you attended. Did you make final 64?

AAU, and ISA according to their website, would like to see how you would perform at the bigger ASA tournaments like Dynamites, Hot Times, Fireworks, etc..

    My perspective is that . . . .

it's extremely difficult for any defense to get 21 outs. If you watch enough D1 pitchers you'll see the really good ones do average at least a strikeout per inning. They also keep the ball in the ballpark . . . . at least a 2:1 GO/FO ratio and field their position. Ground ball pitchers will get 2 to 3 opportunities per game. It's very difficult for a girl to do these things if she isn't consistently in the low 60's. There are D1 pitchers who don't hit 60 but most are not consistent winners.

Clearly HS and even travel ball pitchers can be very successful with a different formula. The most consistent variant I see is what I call the 'High School Rise Ball'. It's most commonly a high fast ball thrown in the mid to high 50's that HS and many TB batters can't lay off of. This pitch is 'fools gold' though as D1 batters routinely ignore it and when the 'rise ball' pitcher comes down bad things happen.

Wow.... 7 pitchers. Most schools are lucky to get one. Good for them though, there is nothing like depth.

    Team sport? yes but . . .

A true shut-down pitcher can carry a very average team a long way. Best example in recent years was Angela Tincher at Va Tech. She carried what was probably a below average team all the way to college world series. VT has done nothing since her departure. There may be no position in sport where one player is as important as the pitcher in softball.

    Another reason...

..why this board doesn't rock so much anymore. A guy is proud of his team and his pitcher and immediately gets jumped on. Oh, must be the tournaments, the competition, they were playing all 12U teams, has to be some reason other than they are a good team and she is a good pitcher! The post did not say she won 83 games. It said she was a big part of their 83 wins but lets ignore that and slam her on this board.

I also seem to remember that team had a pretty good outing at UNCW in February. 4 wins, all shutouts, and were hitting bombs out of UNCW stadium all day. Oh wait, must have been the competition there too since it wasn't an ASA tournament.

And people wonder why the fishman isn't on here anymore....

    Read the post!

There is nothing in the post that slammed the young lady at all, in fact all were compliments. I did not say she won 83 games, I spoke of the team and I did not slam, I asked where they played as to get a feel for the team. Check your own thoughts and do not read my mind! I have never slammed a kid or a team on this board. Check every post I have made since I became a member and also look at all the kids from all travel teams and HS, I have supported! I am happy for all the kids that find success playing fastpitch no matter whom they play!
If you want to discuss further my phone number is 704-562-0479, I will be glad to discuss my thoughts with you.

I know you do a lot (an understatement) for all of the girls and softball in general. When I read your post, it seemed to have a sarcastic tone which unfortunately is not uncommon on this board these days (not by you, in general). My apologies.
