I can only speak about the Charlotte area coaches. Hal Bagwell @ AK, Danny Hignight @ Providence, John Spencer @ Myers Park, Tuscan @ South Meck and Koppe @ East Meck were all assistants with no head coaching experience, including JV's.....and they have all been outstanding.

    Beg j4???

No one will have to beg J4 to coach Cary. He is actively sending out emails and soliciting support from parents. He does not have a teaching certificate but promises he will get it. He has no head coaching experience, even of a jv or middle school team and very little assistant coaching experience. The fact that Cary would even grant him an interview makes them even more pitiful.

What about the senior babe Ruth team he headcoached to state runner-ups? Does that count? Or the seasons he was asst at CHS as well as asst for the Bulls? Does that experience count?

    My Son

It wasn't eight years ago; it was 2007. My son was the player. Was he told he was forbidden from playing legion ball for the Bulls? No, he was told that if he had any desire to play on the varsity as a sophomore he better not play for the Bulls. In the ears of an impressionable 14-year-old who wanted desperately to play varsity ball, that sounded like a clear message.

I also would say that suggestions that parental involvement have had no role in the constant turnover in Cary's coaching position is laughable. Having spoken to former coaches, and people who considered applying but then didn't because of parent issues, the idea that Cary hasn't had issues with parents is absurd.

Town of Cary parents are a new breed. They'll go over coach's heads to administration to complain. I have no knowledge to say this was the case at Cary High, however it would not surprise me in the least.

But J4 is a new breed of coach, the best kind. He cares about his players. Let me rephrase that, he cares about anyone that wants to play. He'll contact colleges for any kid he knows who wants to play.

He's the kind of coach that wants his kids to succeed and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. What more can a program ask for?

Although most supporters want a seasoned head coach that is a great communicator with the players and knows how to motivate. However, for Cary, that's not going to happen. The track record of hiring head coaches and having them leave after a year or less will keep those that are qualified experienced HC's from having interest in the program.

Perhaps Impin' has a better candidate. I don't know why he feels it's necessary to attack Jere Morton. Is it personal? Is there another coach out there that cares about the program and wants to do something to help? If so, he needs to stand up.

I don't know, we have had HS coaches (who know Morton) chime in on this thread, Cary parents and a player and all have supported Morton's coaching abilities. If Cary happens to find an experienced head coach that is willing to enter a long term commitment to the program...then great! But after 8 years that hasn't happened.

Personally, all I care about is if the players have some continuity and are able to build a relationship with an existing coach that can help them improve. Having to go through their HS baseball career each season with a new coach is not something they deserve. To me that should be the priority; identifying a coach that has the school and players interest first and is willing to stay and build a program.

Quite frankly, there are some very experienced HS coaches in this state that are pure knuckleheads. The fact they may have seasons under their belt does not make them qualified.

And most of the good coaches truly love the knuckleheads, because the knuckleheads always make the good coaches look even better.

    Who would be better ?

Certainly everyone is not going to see things as the majority does, and it seems like Impin doesn't, which is fine. But I want to clear a few points up regarding his comments about my previous post which Impin took exception to.

First of all, my name is Ed Perry, my son Chris played for the Bulls in the summer of 2007, which didn't go well for him, and he ended up quitting the team, which didn't sit well with the Bulls coaching staff. So to imply that I am a spokesperson for the Bulls is 'nuts' as they don't even talk to us. On that team were a couple of Cary HS players, who had played with my son on various other teams, and they (and their parents) related the story that HotCornerDad mentioned earlier, that playing time next season would be adversely affected by playing on the Bulls. Again, this was just one coach out of the 8 recent Cary coaches, but the warning did happen and actually those bad feelings contributed to that coach being 'forced' to resign later (details which I will not get into).

Impin has the right to feel that Jere isn't qualified, but the reasons he uses have also applied to some of the other 8 coaches that Cary has recently hired. This year Cary is 0-9 and has been outscored 99-23, what "risk" is there in hiring a guy who loves the school, players, etc. ? He can't possibly do worse than what is happening now.

In addition, we have this article from the Raleigh N&O - http://blogs.newsobserver.com/swakesports/sasscer-resigns-from-cary-baseball#storylink=misearch

In that article is the following (note the Cary AD is Mike Dunphy) - Since 2006, Cary has gone through eight head coaches. "It's unfortunate", Dunphy said. "Every team, every school always wants to find that guy that's going to be there for 'X' number of years or forever like a [former Cary wrestling head coach] Jerry Winterton."

So if the Cary Athletic Director is telling the press that his main concern is finding someone who will "be there" for 'X' number of years, possibly he should have considered hiring the guy that "has been there" and "would be there" which is Jere Morton IV - or J4 has his friends refer to him (I don't know him well enough to call him that).

If Impin knows someone better for the job, I would also be interested in Impin "naming names" as he so vehemently wanted me to do !!!
