Thanks for your query.....it was definitely the bottom of the 7th, the coach conferred with the plate umpire briefly, then stepped across the chalk and went to the mound. The opponent's fans started being vocal about it being a second visit and then the opponent coach approached the umpire about enforcing the 2 visit rule. The ump pondered his dilemma a moment and spoke briefly with the field umpire and then told the coach that indeed the pitcher would have to be removed. That is when the coach started loudly complaining that the ump had approved the visit.......home fans were not pleased to say the least. Funny thing...the reliever who was called in unexpectedly struck out all seven batters he faced getting out of the 7th and thru the 8th and 9th.

    Pinecrest vs Glenn

This was a great game played at the Hilltop Tourney and won by Pinecrest 8 to 7. Glenn had a 6 to 0 lead and Pinecrest battled back and tied the score n the top of the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th Smith the catcher for Glenn hit a HR off the roof of the building in RC to give Glenn a 7 to 6 lead. Then Pine crest scored 2 in the top of the 7th and held Glenn in the bottom of the 7th. Maples started and went 4 inn and gave up 0 runs and I think 0 hits. He pitched good but was a little wild.Billings also had a HR for Glenn. Not a lot of hitting by either team. The 5 hitter for Pinecrest I think had 2 hits.Maples scored the winning run on a FC.

    Rivalry lives up to billing

    I-Meck Conf.

    Mooresville 2 (5-3, 7-6)
    Lake Norman 1 (6-2, 8-3)

At times, the atmosphere felt like a high school football game. Not the best played game between these neighbors, but definitly exciting. LN, without their top two arms, plated a run in the 1st on an Ian Edminston single and held 1-0 lead until the 4th. MHS bottom half started with infield error and a missplayed single off the bat of Andrew Meadows. After LN pitching change, Alex Cagedia retired the next hitter before Kyle Phillips flys one to center field. LN centerfielder slips on grass and ball drops in for a two out, 2-R double. Kyle Altizer relieved Keith Little to get the last eight outs to wrap things up. Both MHS arms threw well, as did Joey McAlpin and Cagedia. Rivalries bring out extra hustle, and hustle causes errors, might explain the sloppy play at times tonight, but either way it was fun to watch. Proud to watch these schools go at it and to have ties with both sides from the Legion ranks. Looking forward to the stretch run for HS and the Summer!

    Cuthbertson HS

    3/28/2011
Played a DH against Monroe HS. Once again, the score was a little lopsided. Cuthbertson takes both conference games.
    Game #1 - Cameron Tekker - 1 HR
Game #2 - John Mangum - 1 HR from the left side. First one from the left side!
Triples - Cameron Tekker, Peter Hendel
Doubles - JD Long (3), John Mangum (2)
This game was another combined no-hitter with Peter Hendel starting and Cameron Tekker closing.

    Tonight - April 1st, 2011
Cuthbertson goes to North Stanley and wins 15 - 4.
    WP - Preston Morrison - Complete Game - 7 innings, 5 H's, 2 ER, 1 BB, and 9 K's.
    HR - Cameron Tekker -2 HR's, Andrew Hendel - 1 HR, Brandon Fallick - 1 HR.
    Four guiys hit doubles.
This is a team that not only brings good pitching, but is also bringing the bats. Cuthbertson moves to 8 - 1, and 6 - 0 in their conference.
Next game against Piedmont HS on Saturday, April 2nd at 2:00 PM at home. Should be a good one and we are looking forward to a great day and a great game.

    East Meck vs South Meck

East Mecklenburg (8-4, 4-3) ended the Sabres 4 game winning streak with a 4-2 win over at the Field of Dreams. After giving up a run in the first inning, Lou Trosch held SM (8-4, 5-2) scoreless for the remainder of his outing. Trosch cruised until the 6th when he worked out of a bases loaded 1 out jam, striking out Logan Koch and inducing a fly out by Adam Nix. Ian Ashworth pitched the 7th inning to record his second save of the season. Ashworth gave up a single run on two Sabre hits, but then slammed the door with a game ending strike out.

The Eagles' Logan Sherer stayed hot for EM with 2 of the team's 5 doubles on the night, with Jackson Reisterer, Wes Bradley, and Jonathan Crews joining him. Earl Oliver lost his first game on the year, but pitched 4 strong innings for SM, leaving the game with his team down only 2-1. 2 insurance runs in the 6th proved valuable for the Eagles and ended their scoring for the evening. Tim Youtsey went 2-4 for SM and Michael Smith also had a pair of hits on the night.

By the way, the dogs and burgers were especially good on this chilly April Fool's night. Nothing better than a "Koppe Dog" at Coach Dave Jones field.

    SM 100 000 1 2 8 3
    EM 100 120 X 4 7 0

    WP Lou Trosch (4-2) 5Ks, 5Hs, 1R, 1ER; SV Ian Ashworth (2)
    LP Earl Oliver (3-1)
