At Ak, Providence pounded AK pitchers winning 11-5! If the game had been played at Providence, the score would have been 17-5 and Providence did not even need to throw thier ace, Buttrey who is 4-1 with an era below 1. Jake Fincher hit a grand slam but even without the power of PHS, it was clear which team showed the most class. AK got rattled and PHS just kept pounding the ball and making plays in the field. Herbert and Dougdale pitched good and really matured. This team, if they stay focus - could be really good. :46:

    Higgy has them rolling again

What was most impressive about this game was that Austin was hitless, and the very dangerous Buttrey was 0-4 with 2 k's, but others stepped up. Buttrey contributed with a nice catch on a hard hit ball before running into the fence, and Austin scored twice and was strong behind the plate. Providence has a really dangerous lineup. They got a HR, and a triple out of the 8 and 9 holes.

Baseball is Easy; throw strikes make the routine plays, get timely hitting. Providence outplayed, and outcoached AK.

Not sure what " showed the most class" means big lew, but Providence definitely showed the most composure.

With their ace on the mound; (Buttrey, 4-1 with an ERA below 1) they are unbeatable.

The second time around the SW4A will have even more suprises. Myers Park is going to come alive, and East meck and Butler are battle tested. At South Meck, the runaway choice for coach of the year, Tuscan has them in a 3way tie for first place. Should be fun

Wow...I was following this on TBR's webgame. It was 6-5 going into the 7th right? I saw where Logan Ratledge went yard twice, then I had to go. I was shocked to see the final score.

The AK vs Providence games are always a treat to watch. I never root for a team (just particular players I know.) It's always fun to watch Bags and Higgy play gamesmanship.

But I must say that I voted for Providence in the poll...in fact I did last year, too.

Even though Austin was 0-4, I thought he had one of the best ABs, i.e., when he had two strikeis, the AK pitcher threw the best curve of the game and Austin got some of it and put the ball in play. AK made an error and the inning continued. Buttrey hit two shots (both caught), one to the fence in RC and another to left, but this team is tough top to bottom, you never know who will take over the game. Jackson hit the ball hard all day and Herbert threw harder and with better control than he has all year. Dougdale came into to close it out under tremendous pressure, he show a lot of composure.

    Storyline

Interesting - I'm surprised the real storyline of this game is missing in the above posts.

    1. Fincher - puts tremendous pressure on the defense 100% of the time. At the plate and on the bases. His performance was nothing short of superlative.

    2. Herbert - mature, composed and unflappable. Very nice performance from a thrower who has developed into a pitcher.

    3. 6-9 - PHS bottom three were 4 for 10 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Black and Maddox were on base all night long. AK's 5-9 were 0 for 13.

    4. Defense - AK with 5 errors and 4 unearned runs. Momentum left AK after the bottom of the first and never came back -- errors were untimely and punitive. PHS w/no errors.

PHS was the better team Friday night.

NOTE TO ANY BASEBALL LOVER ON THE PLANET --- CIRCLE MAY 2, 2011 ON YOUR CALENDAR. DON'T MISS IT.

Hello Baylee Duckdog, nice summary, but......................

What did Providence's 6 hole do? First you talk about 6-9 then go on to say "bottom 3 were 4 for 10..." There are 4 hitters in 6-9. Do you remember? :nono:
Poor #6 might feel he got no press!!

    Check the box...

Dues.... I am so sorry for confusing you. The numbers are still 4 for 10. PHS #6 is a great ballplayer and a better kid. I'd take him on my squad any day, any game. You'll find him at the top of the HR ladder. BUT, he's one of the best catchers in the conference too! That being said, #6 had an impact on the game for sure.

    Thanks for playing.....

Herbie pitched a great game, certainly better than McCue. for varsity he's 3-0 with a save and should be 5-0 , 2 no decisions after leaving 2 games with a 3 or more run lead only to get a no decision. Ty is good to but Herbie is the Man. You guy's keep bypassing him and when he beats you then maybe you will give him some respect. And by the way - The #6 batter for Providence already has 4 hr's - I believe that's tied for 2nd in the conference! I think Herbie's record at Providence with JV & Varsity is like 20 and 3 with 6 or 7 saves. bottom line is both Ty and Herbie are good, Herbie deserves his do - SHOW HIM SOME LUV

I've been following this young man since Higgy pointed him out to me when he was a freshman. Then I watched him with SCP. He is one of my favorite players in the city. Why? Because the kid is not only talented, but hustles everywhere he goes. He plays the game the way it should be played...no better compliment I could give a young man.....Andrew Maclatchie, watch him play!
