Herbie, pitched an awesome game. He kept his composure and kept battling, esp after the first inning HR. Hignight is doing a good job developing these young pitchers and don't under estimate Dougdale, this boy can pitch. Andrew McC (AMac) is a great player and better teammate and I'm not sure why he doesn't get more credit?

My wife and I feel that he really is the General on that field behind the plate. He lets everybody know what's going on in the field and sometimes you can hear him in Union County. That's good stuff! One of the funniest kids I know, as well.

I have seen Herbert play since he was 8 years old and always new the potential he had as a top level pitcher. I think the game againest AK will help take him to the next level.

    Herbert's Due

Big Lew, you answered the question in your 3rd post ("...I'm not sure why he doesn't get more credit?") with your first post.

("Providence did not even need to throw thier ace, Buttrey who is 4-1 with an era below 1.") Herbert and all the pitchers get overshadowed on a staff when there is a ace like Buttrey on the team. Even though Herbert is undefeated this year everyone knows Buttrey is the guy.

Herbert is a good kid, good teammate, and he will get his due, it is just hard when you have an ace in front of you like Buttrey.

I have seen both of these boys pitch for years. They have both come along ways, and although Buttrey has improved since last year, after the job Herbert did last Friday, I would say there is a good debate for who could be the ace of this team. They are lucky to have both boys.

Anyone who has ever played or coached with or against him, and the parents who watched all have an AMac story. He is a talent, and he is one of a kind!

    A different perspective

Friday I saw Higgy out duel Bags via the Fincher show. I saw Herbie and McCue both battle with good enough stuff to win. I saw a 6-5 game after 6 innings turn into a rout as AK ended a terrible night with complete self destruction in the 7th. Walks, errors, mental errors, etc put Prov in a position to end things which they did with an exclamation point. In all AK had 5 errors which may have been conservative and several additional mental errors.....simply a bad night. All teams have them.....didn't Prov lose to an outmanned SM team earlier in yr? A long way of saying that it is not time to name Prov as champion or even superior to AK. On Fri they simply won. One more thing....Higgy does seem to have Bags number a bit during regular season......no so much come state tourney time. Better keep the corks in the champagne Panther fans.

    STATES.... a Tar Heel fan??????????????

Hello, States........ Please re-read your post. I would bet my house you are a Tar Heel fan; you know, "Yea, we got killed, but we are a lot better." Suggest you post after the next game and let the results make your point (if that happens). .. .. :peacemanmw:

    Good luck, man

    best game this year

The rematch was the best game of the year. Both sides threw blows back and forth. Not one kid quit or did not give max effort. What a game! :cheers2:

HS baseball...what a value for five bucks!

The AK vs. Providence game was surely fun to watch...here is what I saw:
    • McCue (AK) got stonger (and faster) as the game went on
    • several long drives by AK were corraled right along the fence
    • Trent Thornton (AK) got his money's worth at the plate driving two balls on a line out of the ballpark...very quick exiting the place
    • Brett Austin (Prov) was frustrated early, but came up big in the bottom of the 7th with a HR that was absolutely crushed....from my vantage point along the first base line you could see the speed of the pitch and the speed of the ball leaving the park quite well...beautiful textbook swing.
    • Jake Fincher (PROV) took one between the shoulder blades and never thought about flinching. Stole second on a curveball and scored the winning run on a flare.
    • Serious dogpile of players for Providence as they clinch the SW4A regular season title
