The funny thing is when I have attended an East Meck game through the years, I can always tell when Ed is there. It always seems that it is a game that is intense and either a player or parent asked for his help. When that happens you'll notice a light twinkling or a large glare from a particular light...it's eerie, but when it does happen, good things occur for East Meck.

And for those that may believe I'm an Eagle's homer, I have no connection to the school. It's just something that I have felt and noticed when I have attended a game at that field.

So for those of you that are attending this tournament and you happen to play a night game, be on the lookout for a twinkling light on Monroe Rd...you may witness a Miracle. Ed likes to remind us that he is still there.

Youth League Recognition CBC Spring Break Classic at East Mecklenburg

To promote High School Baseball to the next generation of players the East Mecklenburg Showcase has invited youth baseball leagues that feed into each of the participating high schools. All youth players and coaches will be given FREE admission throughout the tournament. We'll have base running type events for the kids between games. Finally, each participating league will be specially recognized during a "Prime Time" game involving their high school. The attached flyer lists the times each league will be recognized.

We've invited youth leagues to regular season games before and its great for everyone involved. The youth players and their parents get to see what lies in store for them if they continue to play baseball. The High School players get to be celebrities for a day. Finally, the atmosphere is incredible. Its almost like a baseball carnival. We know that a lot of kids will be out of town for Spring Break, but a whole lot more will be right here. I can't think of a better way for a young baseball player to spend a day.

You forgot to list Weddington's kids day.

WCLion, I was checking the kids day schedule and you forgot to list the Weddington kids. Just an FYI.

That is because in all their wisdom the WCWAA (Weddington) doesn't want to promote this event to their families and kids because they are afraid some travel team (sponsor) will steal their kids from their program. don't go watch your high school team play because we want to keep you in the bubble.
Really? Wow look at that kid watch that game intently! He must be good! hey kid come play for us.

Let me just say this. We have tried to invite every youth league feeding into each high school. It's a shame that the WCWAA (and only the WCWA) decided to "not participate" whatever that means. I guess it means they don't want their kids to have free admission to watch their high school heroes play and that they don't want the Marvin Ridge or Weddington players to be heroes for a day. We did this last year and all the kids had a ball. Since I've been "forbidden" from using the WCWAA to promote the Classic, again whatever that means, let me just say this, ALL kids who wear their youth league jerseys will be given free admission and a chance to run the bases. I'm gonna leave it at that.

I served on the LL board there a number of years ago. New folks come in and decide they know better and make DUMBA** decisions. This is one of them. Decisions like this is why I and many others left that league. Several words come to mind to describe this decision, most are not appropriate for this forum.

Thank you for including ALL youth players. Anytime young kids can watch Baseball at a high level....I'm for it, no matter who's league they play in.

I and my youth players will be attending the games.

Let's see........ Weddington's youth programs feed both Weddington HS and Marvin Ridge HS. Most of the players currently playing for these two schools are heros to the current youth players in that organization. The kids are going to get in FREE to watch their heroes play on one of the finest fields in NC against some other great teams. And then they are going to get the opportunity to come down onto the same field and run the bases with their heroes. BUT NO!!!! SOME IDIOT COMMISSIONER OF THE LEAGUE SAYS NO BECAUSE A CBC BANNER IS HUNG UP ON A WALL SOMEWHERE!!!!! FIRE THIS MORON AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND LET THE PLAYERS BE HEROES FOR A DAY AND LET THE KIDS HAVE SOME GOOD OLD FASHIONED FUN!!! THIS GUY MUST BE A COMPLETE IDIOT!!!!!!

    OOPS!

I am sorry I brought the Weddington "oversight" to your attention. We always talk about this game being "about the kids". I guess that is just talk. It turns out that the adults have missed the point once again. This game, and the kids it is about, are just revenue streams. If what I have read as the reason for excluding these children is true, it is sickening and disturbing.

I for one would like to point out that the people at CBC have committed their time, expertise, and yes money, into this community. And with the economic times of today, they are owed a big thank you.
I will also add that I am personally involved in a VERY large local LL association as well as a local HS booster club and I have never seen CBC come out and "recruit" a single kid.

In closing I would like to thank the folks at East Meck and in particular WCLion for opening their event to ALL the kids, with or without the "permission" of some talking head that has obviously lost track of what is important for the kids.
