I notice that ACC teams play a doubleheader on Sat. afternoon starting at 1 pm and then single game on Sun. @ noon.

do all leagues use this format? I think I saw some SEC series are single games on Fri. night, then singles also on Sat. & Sun.

wouldn't the SEC format be more inviting to fans wishing to attend some games? what drives the Sat. doubleheader / Sun. single game format? cost savings? some of these schools have first class lighted fields but hardly play any night games.

    1 a day

There are several theories on the SEC moving to a single game a day for Fri, Sat & Sun. Some say it was to be more like baseball, some say it was to increase gate revenues, some say it was done by the teams with 1 dominent pitcher so she can throw all 3 games. But it is hard to understand since there are weekday conference double headers. Biggest disadvantage is more class time missed. Teams are traveling on Thursday now.

As far as the ACC going DH Sat, single game Sun. Advantage is less class time missed. More like what other leagues are doing.

I think the driving force in most decisions should be missed class time and how to avoid it.

I don't care for their new format at all. Friday games are impossible for me to get to during high school season. I would rather pay more money to see the Saturday doubleheader.

    yes and no

yes I had also noticed the mid-week SEC conference games and immediately thought of increased travel time and more time away from classes. not much regard for academia.

as for the weekend schedule, as an average fan with no family member playing, I am much more likely to attend night games, hence a Friday or Saturday NIGHT game under the lights for example.

    Academics and the SEC . . . .

As my friends say on Long Island say, FORGEDABOUTIT. ACC, SOCon and CAA are generally 2 SAT/1 SUN with some exceptions for Easter and graduation. Big South is sort of hit and miss with some of the Christian schools preferring to avoid Sunday games to some extent.

    Tough on travelling team

You could do it on Saturdays but most leagues start the Sunday game at noon or one so it would be quick turn-around for the girls. Night games during the week would make it tough on the traveling team. For example, my DD's team played a DH here (ECU) earlier in the season. Games started at 3:00 PM on Wednesday. She got to bed @ 3:00 AM Thursday. She didn't have to go to class but players did.

    baseball does it

college baseball regularly plays night games mid-week as well as weekends. what's the difference as far as being "tough on the players"?
