Is there any, for a lack of better words, league(NSA,AAU,ISA,etc) in which a pitcher is allowed to wear anything on their throwing arm? Faced a team yesterday in which the pitcher was allowed to wear a black wrap around her elbow. This was in the championship game and nothing was said in the three earlier games she pitched in.

    Nothing should be said

It is legal. Optic yellow or something close to ball color is the only thing a call should be made on.

AAU or NFHS rules a pitcher may not wear any item on the pitching hand, wrist, arm or thighs which may, in the umpire's judgement, be distracting to the batter.

I believe most rule sets have a similiar rule allowing for umpire judgment.

I would not judge a solid black wrap around the pitching elbow as distracting to the batter, if it fitted tight to the elbow and didn't move when she pitched.

I believe you are refering to the NSA Championship game in Hickory this weekend in the 10U bracket. The umpires and Director made the correct call in the top of the 3rd inning and allowed the pitcher to wear the elbow sleeve after making her remove it in the bottom of the first inning. Watched the semi final and final game of this tournament and it is sad that some coaches will go to any means to attempt to get in the head of a 10 year old kid. However seemed to back fire in this case as the kids from the winning team hit bullet after bullet and run ruled the other team. The young pitcher never seemed to let the situation rattle her.

While I was only trying to get a rule clarification from others, I must also point out some things since you mentioned the game in question.

    1) The question was raised before the game started. If it was a problem then, why didnt the team seek out the TD at that point? It was the umpires call to have her remove it, not the coaches.

    2) If it didnt rattle the pitcher, which was not the intent although that will never seem the truth to some, why was it that she threw mores pitches in the first inning then the next 2 combined?

    3) The pitcher came out in the 2nd inning wearing a long sleeved shirt to obviously hide the fact that she had it back on. Nothing was mentioned by the opposing team then.

    4) It is sad that the coach from the team with the pitcher threatened the other coach. As in them going outside the field to 'discuss' the matter. A 10U age group right?

Thanks to all for clarifying the rule in question. I am now better informed.
Also, congrats to the winning team. They did hit the ball well all day.

    Who cares about the "rule"?

The better question to ask is why a 10U pitcher needs to wear any type of brace or compression sleave and, if they do, why are they pitching anyway? Have we lost all sanity? If she having some pain why not just shoot her up with cortisone?

Check out the Tulsa / ECU Conference USA tournament game. The Tulsa pitcher is wearing two 1" or wider bands on her pitching forearm and a blue band around her pitching wrist.
