    Summer ball: Legion or Showcase?
    Particulars included
    1) Which is better for continuous skill progression/improvement?
    a. # of games
-Legion plays more games than Showcase (in this particular situation)
    b. Roster size (playing time)
    -Legion has nearly 20
-Showcase has < 15 (less competing for playtime for same position)
    c. Schedules do have conflicts
    2) Which is better for recruitment to play at the next level? I think I know the answer to this second question, but would like to consider other's opinion.

An important consideration, HS coach is Legion Coach. Good be backlash for next HS season.

    Depends solely on the coaches.

Some showcase teams do not practice, player is responsible for his own workouts. They simply recruit the best players they can find and go play.

My son was fortunate enough to play in an organization that was loaded with former pro players who know how to teach. He continued to progress through the entire process. He did not get alot of exposure because he is not an ACC/SEC type player. He did play alot more games in showcase than legion has, and did play against a much stronger talent pool than legion provides on most teams.

Legion has practice until the season starts, then practice is at a minimum. What is acomplished in practice depends alot on the coach. Many times the line-up is preset and will not be changed. Sometimes it is player reputation, sometimes it is political pressure. The legion coach has more people to answer to than does showcase.

Financially it would be a no brainer, the exposure is less. To be honest, my son got the majority of his interest from attending showcase camps. Be careful which camp you choose as there is a great disparity on how they are run and what colleges attend. If your son is a D2, D3, or juco type, he can actually schedule a private workout at the schools he is interested in. The workout can mean alot more than any showcase or legion team.

In my opinion practice is more important than game time. I always looked at the coach and how he ran his practices. Who is teaching IF defense and OF defense. What is their experience. Same with hitting and pitching coaches.

In the original post you listed reasons for both but left out the most important factor. Which one is more fun for the kids. That should be the number 1 consideration. Your only young once live it to the fullest

    Showcase vs Legion

If your with a legit showcase team thats the way to go. Some teams call themselves 'Showcase' but there not. If your in Charlotte, the MegaStars,OnDeck or CBC is the way to go. Legion ball has become somewhat of a joke, mostly getting players that can't make good showcase teams.

Another thing about showcase they may play in front of 50 fans, most of which are parents of the players. In legion they are playing in front of hundreds every night here and a thousand or more late in the playoffs. The atmosphere is way above showcase ball

Why not have the best of both worlds---Legion in the summer and showcase in the fall?

The best part about Legion are the 9 inning games and the opportunity to not be pidgeon-holed to be a pitcher only. Plus if you have an opportunity to play on or against Cherryville, Caldwell, Rowan, etc., the playing environment is not like anything else you've faced.

Playing for a showcase team in the fall will provide you with all of the exposure you will need.
