i would assume the answer is YES the run counts, because there was no way to get the batter 'out.' even though he didn't go to first.

then again, you could say that the runners can't technically move up a base until the batter goes to first.

i would still guess that it counts though.

    Take a walk son

Run wouldn't count if umpire would call the batter/runner out for abandoning his right to go directly to his awarded base!

I was not in attendance but heard it was not confirmed if the runner ever made it to 2B or not. Sounds like umpire did not see it either.

Either way Holly Springs won the game and FV fans should not focus on a technicality.

From what I heard it was a well played game by both teams.

I am a fan of the Tri9 and pulling for any team in the conference thru the playoffs............I was at the game and curious about the call when the runner never went to the base.

u know, i wasnt there, so what can i say. I can say this, when a team loses, why is it always the fault of an umpire? People want umpires to be perfect, well make ur players perfect. Pitchers should never miss, errors should never be made, and batters never strike out. A 7 inning game is gonna have about 240 plays in it(pitches, pickoffs, balls in play, etc) so that this one call could cost a game, bullsh*t.

The ball was hit into the outfield

past the third baseman and the bases were loaded. You lost. The run scored. Yes I guess you could get technical about it and say the runner never touched 2b and we threw the ball to 2b for the out. But come on. If the tables were turned and your guy got a big base hit with the bases loaded would you expect this call to be made?

Its kind of like calling a hitter out for missing first base on a walk off home run. Yeah right call. But still bogus imo.

You know you hear all the time how umpires lost someone a game. But you never hear these same people say "We won that game, thanks to the umpires."

Yep. There was a Rocky Mount player called out for missing 1st base on a homerun a couple of weeks ago against Hunt. Really? :N1saywha:

The word "technical" in some form or the other is being thrown around a lot here. Careful.

As I heard one basketball official say to a coach one night about enforcing the rule that players actually appear at the scorer's table to check in, "it's just a rule, right coach?" It really made me think and has stuck with me. "It's just a rule."

I'm NOT saying an umpire lost any game. But if the player didn't touch 2B before the ball was thrown there, then he's out. It's just a rule though...

I have to agree with you catcoach....if the umpire saw that he didn't touch the base. If he ignored the rule due to the fact that it was a clean single, then he made a huge mistake and it should be reflected in future assignments.

However, if he made the mistake of thinking of the play was over and didn't see the runner fail to touch the base, then I view that a little differently....I wouldn't like it but I could understand it as the breaks of the game.....heaven knows we had some really bad calls cost us opportunities this season but it happens. I would almost commend him for not making a call that he didn't see.

BTW....I have no dog in this fight, so I could care less who won the game. :shiny:

Definitely no dog in it either - and MOST definitely agree that if he didn't see it, don't call it.
