Grand Slam USA is gonna try a little experiment in Raleigh

Starting next Thursday, 6/16/2011.... we are gonna open the field at the
Knights of Columbus in Raleigh for open college softball games..

This is the home field for the Wake Tech softball program. I have a commitment for NCAA umpires to work these games...

    Here is how it works..
Anyone currently on a college roster or played college softball is eligible to play. Field opens at 530.... games start at 630. One game a night...
    No coaches on field.....

We are gonna pass the hat for the umps.... $2.00 a player would be appropriate...

    No High School players......

Game will go to 830 pm...... Could be 5 inning or 12...
This is a chance for players to get some swings, mound time, defensive work.

Facility has restrooms, lounge, serves water, soda, hotdogs....
    Plenty of spectator room.....
We will try it to see what response we get....

    PM me with questions....

We are gonna do this 2 times a month...... will publish schedule...

This sounds like a great opportunity to keep skills sharp. Kaitlyn O'Shea's post in another thread was looking for a local team. Would she be eligible to play?

So, how would coaching affect anything?

It's about getting playing time on a field, against competitive competition.

College players only.... is she on a college roster, or just complete her eligibility....

These are pick up games, like we played as a kid...
Coaches will be the players on the field... they will do just fine.

    Charlie -

What if the kid is signed and begins playing college ball this fall? Is that person a senior or eligible?

If they have signed a NLI from a D1 or D2 school. Yes

Walk ons and D3 ..... No, as there is no binding NLI.

I have to avoid any doubt that these are not tryouts

D3 that have played 1 season are welcome

    Questions?
